I finally got a chance to play last night but only for 1.5 rounds. I did not update my drivers but the frames seemed fine generally running at full details (minus AA) at 1920x1200 with my 7970. I do get occasional hiccups that drop my FPS down to 2-3 (happened twice in 45 min). Based on my ping and reading comments from others it seemed to be happening to everyone, but at different times, and was not connection related.

As for the feel of the game... whoa. Everything fells faster compared to BF3, including ROF from the weapons and how quickly people go down. It also seems harder to see people but that could just be me getting used to the game. The graphics themselves look worse to me compared to BF3 but I could be missing something. I repeatedly checked my video settings to make sure I had everything up high. I can't put my finger on what exactly looks worse but I'll keep trying.

Thanks for all the info from those who are playing, It helps me figure out what to expect and how to play.

Everyone is saying it feels floaty but my experience was that it felt like I was running through mud. I played on a few different servers, all low ping, fps were between 40-60 (capped at 60 with precisionX). And I did something I've never done in an fps before and increased the in game mouse sensitivity.

I like the bullet mechanics MUCH more than BF3. So far, there doesn't seem to be the random spray and there is muzzle rise (only played assault and engi so far and the engi gun had a lot whereas the assault had less).

What's everyone's opinion on the new lean mechanic? I haven't really played enough to make an opinion. My first reaction was, uh oh, cod.

I didn't even realize it was there until I played about 4 rounds. It's pretty understated if you ask me. You have to be in just the right position to use it.

Anybody else get the crashing while changing the key bindings?
And I agree with the poster above that it feels like you're running through mud.
Maybe I missed it, but where do you adjust the FOV at?

I finally fixed the dumbass installation bug.
It's really retarded problem of Origin, and only of Origin, which EA can't fix despite it appearing across different games.

It's ultimately the same fix as in BF3's case, but the catch is the key to be added to registry is not "InstallDir", but "Install Dir", which is why it didn't work at first.

If your Battlelog says the game was not found, try this. I bet it will fix it.

I hate EA so much now. Can't fix a bloody simple thing for years.

I like how the game feels different. It has a unique, fresh feeling just like BF2142 had. Its the little things that make it different. The lighting is clear and the guns have a "new toy" feel and look to them. Colorful and fresh. New and yummy.
Movie night with the wife is behind me. Tonight I ignore the crap out of her...in a loving way.

my most annoying feature was hitting an unassigned key brought up the command prompt, therefore ignoring all my input until I hit tilde Again.

Yeah, I have "B" mapped to PTT for Teamspeak which brings up the console bug reporting. I'm sure this is just for the beta, but it's pretty difficult changing up 10 years of muscle memory for that key.

Eww, Teamspeak.

I map my PTT button for in game to the same as for my Mumble though, so I can talk with both people at the same time (or at least yell at both people). >_>

I wish they kept the sound effects from BF3, which were the most realistic gun sounds in any game period. Now they've reverted back to video-gamey quality sound effects.

Do they actually have all the video settings working? Seems to me a lot of the settings do nothing, low or ultra you see no difference. Obviously the AA, HBAO settings have an obvious effect. Texture quality does sometimes also, but a lot seem to do nothing and have no effect on frame rate.

Has there been any word on this or testing through side by side comparison?

It was noted earlier in the thread that the settings screen doesn't work completely in Beta. This was the same for BF3 beta.

I feel the same way, like the textures are missing some subtle muteness or something, the colors are very mono-ish, they do not look very life like, argh is frustrating I cannot say exactly what feels off about it.

Hopefully is is just a simplified look for testing purposes.

The mud feeling is real, in BF3 I can out run a grenade thrown in my direction, now, I cannot get away and have quite a few 'nade deaths.

Eurogamer.net - DICE releases Battlefield 4 beta bug list

You may be floating if you jump on the bollards."
By Dan Whitehead Published Wednesday, 2 October 2013

Yesterday saw the launch of GTA Online, but also the open beta for Battlefield 4. As expected for any multiplayer game getting its first whiff of real world interaction, there are issues and bugs cropping up and developer DICE has taken to the official forum with a list of known issues currently being investigated.

It includes important information for Xbox 360 players who are planning to jump on bollards.

PC - I'm sure we could put together a longer list.

  • We have received reports of Freezes and Crashes affecting the BF4 Beta client. Our team is currently investigating this matter and we will update you here as soon as we know more.
  • If you are affected by a Freeze or a Crash upon joining a game, and the error message “BF4 Beta has stopped working” appears, please make sure your Windows is fully updated and your Graphic card is running on its latest driver. Alternatively, some players using GeForce drivers were able to fix this by downgrading their driver to an earlier version.
  • We received report of unusually low performances, and are currently looking into that as well.
  • Please note that the Battlefield 4 Beta does not support Win32 and 32 Bit operating systems.
  • Video settings may not be saved after rebooting the game.
  • The tooltip “E” to enter the Venom is visible at a 400 meter distance.
Xbox 360

  • Player stats in Battledash may not match the stats displayed on Battlelog.
  • You may experience an 8 seconds non-interactive pause, when leaving a Multiplayer session or after pressing Start when booting the game.
  • You may be floating if you jump on the bollards.
  • Cruise Missiles may not destroy any vehicle dropped by Vehicle Drop.
  • The requirements for unlock criteria may not be displayed.
  • Two flag icons may appear overlapping on each other at each flag point.
  • The first attachment of any weapon that is not unlocked, will be the only attachment shown for the first unlocked weapon.
PlayStation 3

  • When you choose to quit during the EOR, you may be able to see “underworld” for 1 second.
  • The camera transition before the EOR screen is under water.
  • If you destroy an enemy tank near the Flag A, it may trigger the map's Mini-Levolution event.
  • If you quit from the XMB™ menu after the “Press Start” screen, you may experience a forced shutdown.
  • The background screen for the losing team during EOR, is placed “under the game world” for Domination and Obliteration game modes.
  • The Hit Indicator is not present when shooting at enemies.
  • The EOD Bot can't arm or disarm MCOMs on Rush mode.
  • If you disconnect and reconnect your Ethernet cable while playing, the Game may remain in an endless loading loop.
  • You may not be able to perform a knife takedown on an enemy using the TAW Launcher.
  • If you sign out from PSN while loading into a MultiPlayer server, you may experience an infinite loading screen.
  • In the Soldier Progression menu, you may be able to see upcoming vehicle unlocks that will not be available in the Beta.
  • You may be able to see several Medals, Ribbons, and Dog Tags in the “My Soldier” menu.
PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360

  • If you're disconnected from the EA Servers, the Main Menu tiles remains fixed in the front end.

We need a video pointing out the four pillars you have to take out to bring down the building. WHoever does it first - 1 million views on YouTube! No charge for that tip

I thought it was c4'ing or tank shells at the damaged pillars facing the peninsula causes it to go down.

For the most part that stupid sun from BF3 is gone along with the lens flare. Also seems like guns have much less random deviation, and suppression isn't so bad. Those were some of my most hated things about BF3, and they seem much better in BF4.

I can't wait for the real game, all the maps, full settings and optimization for graphics. It's going to be great.

That is exactly what I was doing, I didn't want to let on , that I was not using the internal squad chat, though. :sneaky:

I suspect, based on the mere 5 gb size of the beta install, that only one set of textures was included (probably medium).

I'm pretty sure that stuff is already up there.

It's the 4 large pillars facing the bay, they're very conspicuous.

2 hits from a RPG will take each out.

Anyone getting this error? I can't play

"This program can't start because MSVCR100 is missing. Please try reinstalling to fix this problem."

I'm desperate for advice here. The techs at EA were clueless and said it was a Windows error. I tried installing C++ Visual because I think it has something to do with that. Halp!

Is the file genuinely missing from your system ? If so, get a copy from someone running the same windows as you and put it in windows\system32 maybe ?
