I'm curious how some of those upgrade perks will apply to Hardcore. Also I predict everyone and their mom using the Defensive path :p

I hope they add some flexibility to server designation. Right now if you disable 3D spotting on a Normal server it becomes custom. They need to change that so you can have 3D spotting off and maintain your server listed under Normal.

The main reason I play HC only is because 3D spotting is completely retarded.

Do I understand correctly you get to pick four of these, and have only the duration of one round to max them up, lined one after another, to get the effects? That's pretty lousy mechanic I say. The way teamplay does NOT work in BF, I believe I will never get past first upgrade (not to mention most rounds last pretty short time, unless it's like 500% tickets).

New Battlefield Blog Post - Ask DICE: Battlefield 4 – Multiplayer

08.16.13, crash7800
We’ve been seeing questions pouring in from fans who are excited for the launch of Battlefield 4 – now just months away!

In the spirit of keeping our fans informed and Prepared 4 Battle we’re continuing a new series called “Ask DICE,” featuring questions that we’ve received from Battlefield players with answers straight from the development team at DICE. Check back here at the Battlefield blog every other Friday for answers, exclusive info, and more.

Battlefield 4 Multiplayer Q&A
This week we’ll be answering your questions on Multiplayer. From the beginning, victory in Battlefield means working as a team to take down the enemy. Battlefield 4 continues this proud tradition with renewed focus on teamwork and squads.

So without further ado…

Manu_lanza97 asked, “Are there going to be jets in Battlefield 4? What types of jets?”

Battlefield 4 will definitely have jets! We’ll be giving you more information about jets soon, so stay tuned. For now, we’re happy to reveal the Chinese J-20 Stealth Jet – a totally new addition to jets in Battlefield.

R3NAI55ANCEMAN asked, “Is the tower in Siege of Shanghai destroyed by the players themselves or is it set off by the score of the match, like the red-and-white tower in Caspian Border, in BF3?”

Battlefield 4 will feature game-changing destruction on a whole new scale with a concept we call Levolution – this is what you’re seeing when the skyscraper in Siege of Shanghai is destroyed.

The skyscraper in Siege of Shanghai is brought down when players destroy the four main pillars of the building. This means that it can happen at any time in the match.

Levolution happens on all levels from the big like the skyscraper moment to the small like shooting fire extinguishers to distract your enemies so you can easily take them out or cutting the power of a building to blind your opponents so you have the advantage on the battlefield.

These game changing events not only affect the player’s tactics but also the visual identity of the map. And what’s most important, it’s you triggering these things to happen.

R3NAI55ANCEMAN also asked, “How many players can one match have on the Xbox 360 and the PS3?”

Battlefield 4 will support 24 players on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with two additional commanders depending on the game mode. We will support 64 players on PC as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4, a first for the Battlefield series on console. Battlefield 4 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will also run at 60fps, another first for the series on console. The Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC, with also support 2 additional players taking on the role of Commanders, depending on the game mode.

Additionally, squads now consist of five teammates.

Reconer asked, “Can we play as the Russian forces in multiplayer?”

The playable factions in multiplayer are Russia, China, and the U.S.

Gary D asked, “Will there be mortars in BF4?”

Yes, there will definitely be mortars in Battlefield 4! A redesigned, remote-controlled Mortar will allow Support players to give indirect fire support while staying with the squad.

PatchRowcester asked, “What changes are being made to BF4 to encourage teamplay over individual stats?”

One of the ways Battlefield 4 will encourage teamplay is Field Upgrades. The idea behind Field Upgrades is to give individual rewards for squad based team play performance. You earn them through squad scoring such as squad healing, completing objectives with your squad members, squad resupplies, squad repairs, and other squad actions.

Instead of one single specialization in Battlefield 3, you can now pick from different upgrades paths, each containing four specializations. Keep the squad alive, and you will move through the accumulative upgrade path. However, if your entire squad is eliminated, you will lose some of your progress.

We’ve also seen some questions floating around about suppression, so we’ve decided to shed some light on it.

Suppression has been refined in Battlefield 4. There will be no more suppression in close-quarters combat, and LMGs will have beefed-up suppressive fire abilities allowing you to pin down your enemies.

Suppression also causes visual impairment, while being suppressed no longer impacts the accuracy of your weapon. Instead, a sway effect makes aiming more difficult, but with some skill you will find it possible to counteract.

Until next time…

Check back here at the Battlefield blog every other Friday for answers, gameplay previews, and more.

You can also see the DICE developers and leads live on stage during the EA gamescom 2013 press conference, where they’ll be detailing even more Battlefield 4 multiplayer. Learn more about the conference here.

Next time we’ll be answering questions about Levolution and Commander Mode. What questions do you have? Let us know in the comments below.

Battlefield 4 begins its release on October 29, 2013 and will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Pre-order now and get the China Rising expansion at no additional cost.

Man I hope they fix the jets. They need to have a minimum speed on them, I swear they still have lift even at 10mph

BF4Central - Battlefield 4: everything that’s confirmed so far

This article is supposed to contain confirmed info only, so I thought I'd point out items that are merely rumour, or conjecture. In bold. -- Gully

A complete breakdown of everything we know so far about the upcoming multiplayer shooter from EA and DICE.
Battlefield 4 was unveiled last month, and over the past few weeks, we’ve gotten a ton of information about the upcoming first person shooter. We know that the game is scheduled for release this Fall, and that a beta will be available in the Fall as well. We also know that the game is only confirmed for the PC and current gen consoles, but there have been strong indications that Battlefield 4 will be released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720. Here’s a complete breakdown of everything we know so far about BF4:
Battlefield 4 singleplayer
Battlefield 4 soldierSo far DICE has only discussed the Battlefield 4 singleplayer portion. Starting with the full 17 minute singleplayer gameplay walkthrough, we got to see the new direction DICE is taking with BF4. In a subsequent interview, DICE said that they weren’t satisfied with the singleplayer in BF3, and felt that it was “too controlling and too linear“. They’re looking to make the Battlefield 4 singleplayer more like the recent Bad Company games, where players had more freedom to chose how to approach a particular objective.
Battlefield 4 Multiplayer
There haven’t been many details on the Battlefield 4 multiplayer part, but we do know a few things. For one, PC gamers will still be getting the full 64-player experience, while those on the PS3 and Xbox 360 will once again be limited to 24 players. One piece of good news is that DICE is taking special interest in eSports with Battlefield 4, which means the game might ship with some advanced tournament features. Another thing that’s been confirmed is that co-op will not return in Battlefield 4.
Pre-orders and bonuses
The game is now available for pre-order on EA’s Origin platform and at various brick and mortar retailers around the world. If you pre-order, you’ll be getting free access to the very first Battlefield 4 DLC, called Drone Strike Expansion. EA also offers a Digital Deluxe Edition on Origin, which include access to the beta this Fall. GameStop and other retailers will throw in a pair of real dog tags if you pre-order. Battlefield 4 is already the most pre-ordered game at GameStop and other retailers.
New Frostbite 3 game engine
Battlefield 4 Frostbite 3The “brand new” (as DICE calls it) Frostbite 3 engine powers Battlefield 4 and adds better destruction, new weather effects, new lighting system, new character animations, and more. DICE is working with both Nvidia and AMD to release video card drivers optimized for Battlefield 4 when the game hits the store shelves this Fall. Additionally, Frostbite 3 will be used in the upcoming Dragon Age 3 and Mass Effect games.
Battlefield 4 weapons and vehicles
We’ve only seen a few Battlefield 4 weapons so far. One of them is the M1911 pistol, another is the M39 EMR sniper rifle, both of which are featured on the poster and box art. Additionally, we’ve seen plenty of weapons and vehicles during the 17-minute singleplayer gameplay session. As for Battlefield 4 vehicles, game artwork has revealed the M1 Abrams tank, the Chinese Type-99 tank, and the Russian MI-28 Havoc attack helicopter.
Battlefield 4 beta
The Battlefield 4 beta will launch this Fall, and will be accessible to all BF3 Premium owners. Additionally, there are two ways to get into the beta: pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition on Origin, or purchase a copy of Medal of Honor Warfighter.
Battlefield 4 Premium
Battlefield 4 contructionDICE confirmed last month that Battlefield 4 will be getting a Premium service, and that it will likely be ready at launch this Fall. Premium should retail for $50 and will offer free access to all upcoming DLC, new Battlelog features, and other goodies. For more, check out our recent article about what we can expect in Battlefield 4 Premium.
DLC and maps
We know that Battlefield 4 DLC is already in the making, and EA has confirmed that the very first DLC, Drone Strike Expansion, will be released shortly after launch. Drone Strike Expansion will be free to those who pre-order the game from EA and other retailers. As for Battlefield 4 maps, we’ve heard rumors that the popular BF2 map Road To Jalalabad might be remade for BF4.
Trailers and screenshots
Finally, we’ve got a collection of the trailers, screenshots, and wallpapers that have been released so far. Also check out the final Battlefield 4 box art for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

If they release road to Jalalabad, that would be really cool. I miss that map. The ultimate would be Kubra Dam. Actually, if they just remade BF2 that would be about as good as it gets. Actually I duno. I'm confused.

I barely remember BF2, but this was one of the maps I played really maniacally. The initial area is sniper hell, but the city is awesome. I hope these rumours are true!

Battlefieldo - New Expansion Packs Revealed!

Discussion in 'News & Updates' started by PonyForever, 35 minutes ago.
BF4Expansion_zps2ff9e360.jpg

ATTENTION: The names for the remaining BF4 Expansion Packs have just been revealed! In addition to China Rising, which features 4 new maps, and Second Assault, which includes 4 fan-favorite maps, Battlefield will include the following:

Naval Strike

Dragons Teeth

Final Stand

http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield-4/expansion-packs/naval-strike
http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield-4/expansion-packs/dragons-teeth
http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield-4/expansion-packs/final-stand

You'll get an access denied page, which means the pages exist on the server, but they're not live yet.

The China Rising Expansion Pack is available as a pre-order bonus for BF4, while the Second Assault Expansion Pack will be available after launch.

If BF4 follows the same model that BF3 has in the past, then this should complete the list of expansions. It will be interesting to see what each one of these will encompass. What do you think these will be about?

Be sure to stay tuned, as soon as we get all the details on these we'll be sharing them with you!

Does anyone know if the preorder bonuses are included if the preorder is bundled with a console?

Beta confirmed for October. =( Not a huge amount of time to fix all those bugs.
That worries me too. Alpha is, if I understand correctly, to get it right from technical point of view, and beta is for testing the actual gameplay. There's no way in hell they can fine tune any balance in a matter of what, two, three weeks? I don't want to see another bugged launch with months worth of delay after the worst stuff gets fixed.

All par for the course for a BF game.
