I'm using some pretty ancient hardware, save for the GPU...

A Xeon 3530 @ 2.8, 4GB of slow 1066 DDR3, a SATA 2 hard drive and I had a 7850 1GB...I was running it at max on 1920x1080 with just the deferred AA...off.

I was gettng 18-30 fps depending what was going on, but when anything exploded, it dropped down to the lowest.

Have been building a new rig for someone and tried swapping the 7850 1gb for the 'lesser' 7790 2GB, and on the same settings not seen it drop below 36 fps and hovers around 50 !

With AMD driver 13.10 beta. The VRAM usage is about 1550mb, so for all the reviews saying the 2gb of ram on a 7790 is pointless, were smoking crack.

I imagine the 1gb version of the 7790 would do worse than the 1gb 7850 of course.

Can provide screenies for proof...

In fact I uploaded them here :

Ultra settings and 1366x768 with no msaa was hitting right about 1700mb for me, I had your same dips this morning but mine came with a bonus which was a complete lock up and crash of the game and I was doing pretty good so you know I was pissed lol.

If and when I crash it always seem to happen when I kick ass for some reason.

All I have is an old Xeon W3530 which is essentially a Core i7 930 from 2008/2009 or whenever the 930 came out, similar to the 920 just a tad faster, slow ECC ram at 1066 and a slow hard drive, and the CPU usage is not even taxing the old girl....it seems BF4 is more GPU biased than BF3 is, or rather more balanced, as this same machine has higher CPU utilisation on BF3 than 4, same settings.

Can battlepacks give you stuff you already have?
Anyone else notice unlocks sometimes don't happen till you play another game? I unlocked Carbine and played with it that round, but when I played the game again later I had to get a kill to reunlock it. I guess its just slow updating.

I'm Dranzerk in bf4 if anyone see me kill you :D

I just unlocked about 20 different gun dog tags when I got my first service star with the ACR. It kept flashing a dog tag on top of my screen and I was like, "OK, I saw it the first time now stop bothering me while Im fighting!" I didnt realize until the end of the round that they were for different guns. :D

I find all these posts about reinstalling windows fixing the issue funny. I highly doubt Windows had anything to do with it unless it was a hacked for piracy version. Those are known to have lots of problems because they are not really able to be updated much.

I have a GTX460 and Windows 8.0. Windows updated and using latest stable NVIDIA drivers (Sep 19). Game runs just fine in med detail at 1680x1050.

Reinstalling Windows is really just a last resort when the person can't troubleshoot the issue. I have a legit version of Windows, but I dont update that much because I only really use it for games, and I only play a handful of games a year. Plus, I dont like rebooting, as I have the few apps I use running, web pages open, etc, the way I like it. Even if you are using a bootleg version of Windows, you can still update it, but I think people just dont do it regularly.

I think its the general purpose nature of Windows is the issue. There are a million updates for things that most users don't care about, and the updates are not required, but developers set a baseline that some people are not set up for. In this aspect I think Apple has the better approach. Just one combo update after another in dot release form, and developers know that if a user has say 10.8.3, they will have the stuff required to run the app. If they don't have 10.8.3, the app won't run. Even then its still not perfect, but it takes most OS dependency related issues out of the equation. MS should roll out more SP updates in conjunction with small patches. An app just saying it requires Windows 7 or Windows 8 doesnt really mean anything. This is not specific to Dice, but games should have more requirements built into their launchers. Sometimes they do, but often the game will just crash and the user has to look at the stack and google to figure out what is wrong. Many times, it would be just easier to reinstall.

I had problems deploying last night. In the preview window, it looked like I actually deployed, but then I couldn't get out of the screen. A couple of times escaping out to the menu, then resuming, and repeatedly doing it got me in the game. This happened on the first couple of servers I tried, but then I joined another one I didnt experience it anymore on any server. I assumed it was some backend bug.

VRAM usage on my 7970 on Max Settings

Mine is a little higher according to MSI Afterburner at 2560x1440 at the ultra default setting. I do not believe that the textures are the final high res versions. I would also think that building textures are not as diverse as heavier foliage maps.
