 And by "physical activities" I assume that's your NFL off-season workouts???

No doubt. Do you realize what sort of effort it takes to consume 5000 calories?

a 3-4 hour bike ride will do it.

Sorry, but no - seriously doubt this could could sustain (or pretty much anyone who's not a professional cyclist) 20mph for 3-4 hours.

I guess you didn't include the 2k calories you burn doing a typical day to day bs on top of the ride.

And even then, you probably aren't doing a 3-4 hour bike ride daily. Maybe once a week for a long ride, but not for maintenance rides.

I commute to work and just about everywhere around town. I ride at least 3 hours a day.

You do - but not everyone. Sorry dude, but what you're saying is not practical. Typical day to day stuff is pretty much a non-issue because your body adapts to it, and it's no longer exercise. That's why an exercise regimen changes constantly in order to increase muscle and burn fat.

Okay, so assuming a moderate pace here, and going off the high end of 190 pounds, you are looking at around 2000 extra calories a day. That makes 4000. Not 5000. That's about 3/4 of a large pizza.

This article is misleading, he lost weight by eating salads and occasional burger that he bought at mcdonalds [along with exercising], meaning he didn't just go their and consume fries, burgers, shakes, pop's, etc.

I applaud him for losing the weight but everything he done could have been done just by going to the market/store and purchasing all the same ingredients and have a better tasting salad that you could make last a few day's.

Good for him - even if claiming he lost it eating McD's food is a bit misleading. No one thinks McD's and immediately envisions the salads. :)

I hate how people applaud or are amazed at the concept of losing weight and how when fatties do it, it's such a big deal. Because they had no self control or sense of being healthy before, we should applaud them because they finally get the concept?

I agree with everyone saying that this was a starvation diet. However, I don't think he would have been as successful if he purchased and made the items himself. His problem not only stemmed from what he ate, but it sounds like portion control was another negative factor. When the salad is given to you in a pre-determined size, it's easier to maintain portion sizes, rather than filling a bowful of home made salad and smothering it with dressing..
Despite what I just said, I think his nutritional habits were too extreme, and he will just gain the weight back.

Especially when they do it through borderline anorexia and intentional consumption of unhealthy foods. Make yourself a salad and spend some time on a stairmaster you fat bastards.

People applaud at the concept that they overcame a challenge. Everyone has their own challenges and difficulties that they struggle with. For some, this may be maintaing a healthy weight, for certain others it may be controlling their bitchy temperment. No need to be high and mighty about it.

Hah, seriously. I've eaten 1400 calories per day before for extended periods of time, and I did it while riding an exercise bike for an hour each day. It just takes discipline.

Strange that he wears a 36" waist and he only weighs 190. He must be a short guy.

I'm 6'2, about 200lbs and wear a 36" waist.

But, he does look short. If you watch the video in the link, he is shorter or just as tall as the female host (I can't remember her name).

If you go to any restaurant and stuff your face like that, you're going to get fat. Just because one guy chooses to stuff his face at Mcdonalds, it doesn't make mc donalds inherently bad. That guy's diet choice is fucking bad.

The main problem with his approach is that he forced himself to eat 3 meals even when he wasn't hungry. His results would likely have been different if he only ate until he was full and skipped meals when he wasn't hungry.

Actually, in his book, he said that after a while he was hungry all the time. At first, he was stuffing himself, but then after the first week, he was getting cravings for Mcdonalds, kind of like a smoking addiction.

He also ate everything on the menu at least once, and at salads as much as he could. Problem is, some of McDonalds salads have more calories than damn Big Mac.

Huh, I'm 6'0" 215 lbs and wear a 33-34" waist. When I weighed 190 lbs I wore a 32" waist. I guess it could be a combination of shortness and "broad frame."

Is minorly starving yourself that bad? He had stored up like 150lbs of calories, if he doesnt eat enough, his body turns to fat for energy, how is that bad? His body isnt breaking down muscle and organs for engery.
How many calories do you think you actually burn waking up, going to work, sitting at a desk, walking around a bit and going back home?
He could have done it at home for cheaper, but I'm guessnig the nutrition chart at McD gave him a warm and fuzzy while also he probably made all food at home off limits.
Good for him, one less grotesquely obese person in the world.
