She's a beauty. Although, pretty sure I've seen better looking stock wheels on that machine before. Maybe I'm wrong.

You're a lucky SOB to be driving that...you gotta have quite a bit of money to afford one of those suckers. The purchase price alone...and I imagine it will cost nearly $150 to fill the tank from empty.

Big oil fucking loves it when we buy shit like this. :ninja:

3. MPG isn't as important to some people. I have a seven mile commute. I don't care if it gets 11 MPG.

It doesn't matter how far you drive. You are still only getting 11mpg.

A 1970's Cadillac is a land barge. Raptor? Not so much.

You sure about that?

1971 Cadillac Coupe de Ville:

Wheel base: 130 in
Length: 225.8 in
Width: 79.8
Height: 54.5 in

2014 Ford Raptor:

Wheel base: 144.5 in
Length: 231.9 in
Width: 86.3 in
Height: 78.4 in

Sure, the Raptor is more stylish, but no less of a land barge.

1. It isn't all that slow... Given that it is a truck. It isn't that far off of the miata which is a great momentum sports car but is relatively slow when compared to other sports cars. It's one of the slowest but with great handling. The raptor is plenty fast for DD duty.

I should remind everyone again that this truck is getting the Roush supercharger setup within a couple of weeks... It definitely won't be slow after that with 590hp. :)

Barges implies slow and cumbersome.

That Cadillac takes 11.8 seconds to hit 60. A *stock* Raptor does it in under 7. 5 seconds flat with a blower. That's better than the majority of "sports cars" on the road.

Big, sure - but "land barge" does not quite fit.

I wouldn't say it's better than most "sports cars" - yeah, it beats a Corolla (by a little), but it still loses to a Camry hybrid 4 cylinder.

Nice ! I actually found a Dodge Ram 1500 SRT V10 (Viper motor !!) near me, but so far the wife remains unimpressed in our negotiations - she plays hardball when it comes to a 20k purchase.

So the obvious question is - will the Miata fit in the bed ??

It's in the very back of a large parking lot, lots of spaces available today. And, it wasn't intentional... This thing is so wide that I don't have a good feel for it yet.

So please, no paint stripping gel :)

That's what she saiddddddddddd!

... but not about you. :p

Anyway, is this thing for hauling stuff or what?

I rented an F150 recently (not entirely on purpose, it was a "wild card special" for $12/day and ended up with a never-driven truck), and it was a difficult to park. You can't see the parking space lines over the hood so it's a bit of a "best guess". The reverse camera was amazing though, with its 180 degree view....much better than the Denali's we've been using lately.

How does that not matter? I have a 5 mile commute, 11mpg wouldn't bother me if the car was worth it (this truck is not), but a viper? yes.

If I still had my 60 mile commute, then yes MPG would matter to me.

Meh, I've always thought of land barges just as really f&&king big cars. I'm not saying it's slow, but its still a big ass truck.

Yeah - you are still getting 11mpg. It's just that gas mileage is irrelevant for many people who don't have long commutes.

Now that being said, I do agree that the mileage (more so the engine) is one of the low points of this truck. I'm waiting to see what they do for 2016 (I expect that there will be a new raptor). Would be much more efficient on the new lighter chassis with an engine that wasn't (relatively) low tech (compared to Ford's other engines).

My commute is 8 miles. I still wouldn't want something that gets 11mpg. I mean is work really the only place you'd want to drive to? It's an awesome truck but such a waste of money in so many ways that I could never see myself owning something like that.

The newer raptors (I think it's 2012+) have a front camera as an option too. However, unless you hack the display system, it's only available in low range 4wd (designed for off-roading). That should be a feature that just comes on at under 10mph (or has a setting to allow it at least)

Camry hybrids are running to 60 in four seconds?

A 2014 Corolla S takes 9.7 to 60. That's substantially slower than the ~6.5 a *stock* Raptor takes, and here we're talking a blown one that takes five seconds flat.

I think your numbers are off, dude. Or you misread my post and thought I said "7.5 seconds", which I did not. ;)

Nice ride. Raptor's are back road kings. Bombing a Raptor down a crappy fire road at insane speeds is one of life's true joys.

The answer is always Miata if the question is "What is the most limp wristed 'sports car'? "

Try telling that to all of the people that use the MX-5 as their tool of choice for the track.

http://www.wired.com/2011/02/the-mazda-mx-5-breaks-another-record/
Since production of the first-generation Miata began in 1989, the bulk of MX-5s and Miatas — nearly a half million — have been sold in North America, with 274,081 going to Europe and 165,013 staying in Japan. Regardless of geography, it’s the most raced car in the world.
