But they aren't really. Looking at their little video its using a pre-existing kiosk. Apple isn't pushing adoption here they are simply coming to the party after the infrastructure already exists.
The infrastructure was there years ago already. Google could've accomplished the same.

But Apple's taking it one step further. You can pay directly in the app and it ties with merchants. That's my complaint about Google Wallet a few months ago. I was looking for stuff to eat, and PayPal directly lets you look for vendors nearby and pay for food and even order via Eat24. Google Wallet has none of that. They only introduced Dominos back at Google I/O, but honestly does that matter?

Look at how Apple's integrating with Uber, the way Uber integrates with my CC. Google Wallet had years to get the ball rolling but Google did nothing.

So the whole NFC thing is where I think Google deserves a slap in the face. Apple's gonna do what Google should've done from day 1 now.
Google couldn't do it then without the credit card infrastructure that's now in place.

Apple is, unsurprisingly, free riding and taking the credit.

Agreed. Galaxy Nexus came out in 2011 with Google Wallet but their implementation of it was horrible. If I can add my Amex to an iPhone and get the correct cash back I'd definitely use it. Also I leave a lot of credit cards at home since I don't like it making my wallet all fat. This will help me keep only my important cards with me and everything else on pay.

I generally agree, I just personally think NFC fixes a non issue, as taking the phone out of my pocket and opening the whatever mobile payments app is used takes just as much time as taking my wallet out and swiping my credit card

You don't have to open the app, you just tap your phone and it does it automatically.

wtf?
