Doesn't Google Wallet use NFC?
Yeah but it sucks.
Looking at some of the pictures of Apple Pay, it looks like they worked with the major banks to get your exact card onto the phone.
Google dropped the ball on this one years ago.
Doesn't Google Wallet use NFC?
It does. But wasn't it restricted to MC for the longest time? Carrier blocked? Blah blah blah?
The infrastructure was there years ago already. Google could've accomplished the same. But they aren't really. Looking at their little video its using a pre-existing kiosk. Apple isn't pushing adoption here they are simply coming to the party after the infrastructure already exists.
Google couldn't do it then without the credit card infrastructure that's now in place. So the whole NFC thing is where I think Google deserves a slap in the face. Apple's gonna do what Google should've done from day 1 now.
I assume the watch is coming now

But Apple's taking it one step further. You can pay directly in the app and it ties with merchants. That's my complaint about Google Wallet a few months ago. I was looking for stuff to eat, and PayPal directly lets you look for vendors nearby and pay for food and even order via Eat24. Google Wallet has none of that. They only introduced Dominos back at Google I/O, but honestly does that matter?
Look at how Apple's integrating with Uber, the way Uber integrates with my CC. Google Wallet had years to get the ball rolling but Google did nothing.
I generally agree, I just personally think NFC fixes a non issue, as taking the phone out of my pocket and opening the whatever mobile payments app is used takes just as much time as taking my wallet out and swiping my credit card
You don't have to open the app, you just tap your phone and it does it automatically.
No, it wasn't. Wallet worked everywhere Paypass did, but that was nowhere back then. The infrastructure was there years ago already.
stainless steel, sapphire glass, magnetic(?) band

And then Uber? That sure existed in 2011...
