I'm surprised that daiquiri is a "basic" cocktail since a daiquiri is really just a Sidecar. Look at the recipe...

Applejack has almost completely been forgotten (other then a sudden resurgence of it recently) but was at one time the vodka of the cocktail scene.

Interesting case of baader meinhof phenomenon, I had just encountered Applejack for the first time last weekend, when my girlfriends friend brought some over for us to have some fun inventing mixed drinks.

I didn't know what it was and just assumed it was some apple flavored liquor. We still have most of it, so I might try making a Jack Rose with it.

I think it's a requirement when ordering a Manhattan that you have to be smoking a cigar, wearing a 1940's suit hat, and end all of your sentences with things like "see..." and "I tells ya!"

Well I have the makings for the first five, dunno what that last one is. I usually only drink neat, and usually brandies.

But I'm bored, so I'll do the five I can make, in order. First up is some seagrams gin, vermouth, can't remember whose, and some lemony squirty stuff. No olives, but I'll dip a pickle in it. So it's sort of a half assed martini. Or a mar, or tini, depending on which part of the ass.

Well done with the martini. Tasted like...well a martini. I don't really like them, this one was no better. There is something about the taste of gin that I don't like. Almost a...plant taste to it. Bitter to me and a turn off. Good thing that bottle of gin was only 350ml.

Manhattan up next.

Eh, fuckit. Just back to Coke Zero and a bunhc of whatever hwas left in the cabinet. Weeee. I took a bath, don't take those much. Hot in here, time to turn down the a/c, was like over 100 today. I gave a c op my tequiela, that shit is nasty.
