This is not very sporting but does anybody else find it satisfyingly hilarious how much trouble Red Bull is having with their car? They'll probably get it sorted out eventually... but Ted Kravitz says they probably won't make it out of Q1. :hmm:

Well, they still have two weeks to get it right. And essentially, this is what it cost them to assure the title last year - that and the peculiarities of the Renault power unit, which isn't as brilliant as the V8, relative to the other engines.

And looking at the other Renault teams, I'm pretty sure that at least one RB will make it into Q2. Lotus isn't faring much better and neither is Toro Rosso, and whether over a single lap the Caterhams and Marussias can keep up, isn't cut and dried either.

We might be seeing some quali-sim runs over the next few days, which will be interesting. Unless of course, the teams decide to rather not give 100% pace a try, and instead stick to getting their race sims done, and learn more about tire wear and fuel consumption and weighed-down performance, while starting 100% runs only on friday/saturday before the race.

I'm glad. I want some fucking competition instead of Vettel running away from everyone.

From the way it's shaping up so far it's not going to be much better, just a different team. The last one running at the end of the race isn't really competition as much as survival. Give it a year for the manufacturers to get everything sorted and 2015 could be a very very good year. I just see lots of blow ups and break downs this year.

From the BBC's Andrew Benson:
"It's fair to say Renault's request for an extension to the engine homologation deadline has stirred up a bit of a hornet's nest. It's a very controversial thing to request, for two reasons - 1) these engine rules are effectively only in F1 because Renault wanted them and threatened to quit if they were not introduced; 2) the manufacturers have already had an extra year to develop the engines, after the initial date for the introduction of hybrid turbos was pushed back from 2013. Renault want an extra two months of development before specs are frozen.

I don't think any of the teams in the strategy group (Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes, Williams, and Lotus) would veto this for sporting reasons... but this is F1 after all so who knows? :whiste:

i think unreliable cars are great for racing - it mixes things up and gives the teams a chance to excel in an area other than aero.

I assume this picture will make many people happy

So, Williams is racing in a red-blue on white Martini livery this season.

It does look pretty good, but honestly: I preferred the austere Williams blue. It was very distinctive, and extremely....cool.

well, the red bull ran for more laps than before, but they are losing Infiniti as their title sponsor in 2015 (shrug for me)
Actually losing infiniti is pretty huge. That is Renault. Basically when they left the sport its obvious even with the sale to Cateram that they shifted to Red Bull as their primary team that their engines would be developed for and that they wanted to use that company to sell their brands. By dropping them I wonder if its a sign of them looking to shift to another team to be the face of their F1 efforts (maybe a move to Williams?) or is it just them winding down to be just an engine supplier creating a stock engine for teams cosworth style.

Look at France in general. I'm wouldn't be surprised if Renault left entirely in several years. No Michelin involvement, no French GP, etc.

Well, the French automotive industry is quite precarious. PSA has been joined to a Chinese partner to obtain some urgent funding, and Renault's move to Nissan is not making it rain money either.

On the other hand, Infinity only recently got on board with Red Bull as a title sponsor (last year), so I'm not sure there's that much riding on it. They've been a main sponsor since 2011 though, but who knows at what level they will continue.

So, what exactly is the point of the huge dildo on the front of some of the cars this year?

Remember Grosjean crashing into Alonso and almost taking his head off? They lowered the nose height so that wouldn't happen. The teams have all developed a penis to meet the regulation of a lower nose height.

That's right. Everyone has a low hanging penis.
