I don't know what you people are talking about no beaches. The whole state is one big sand trap. Its easy to play golf there just bring your sand wedge. Houses are cheap because they don't put any insulation into them. Its hot all year long. Get ready for an expensive water bill, they have to ship it in from another state, and the electric bill is going to be insane as you'll be running the ac all year round. Enjoy! Feels like a heat wave....

A lot of the water used in AZ is from the Colorado River, the one that borders the state with Nevada and Cali.

Uhhh...I dunno how you define beach, but for most of us it's next to the ocean (or a lake if you are a little more liberal about your definition). Proximity to sand is an ancillary benefit for the occasionaly game of bocce, volleyball, croquet, or football, but a lot of us are there for water as much as sand!

There are many lakes in the Phoenix area, and within a half day haul to NV, Mexico and the Pacific.

Be prepared for a temp difference (low humidity though) and slightly dusty.

Every metropolitan area has its benifits and detractions. Depending on how much time you have, contact people who are actually out there and get some feedback.

You have to take it, as opprotunities like this do not come along that often. And if you don't you will forever be wondering "What if I did..."

If you don't want it, I'll take it.

Sometimes, turning down a promotion is the best way to ensure you'll never get another.

Perhaps, but when the promotion involves a married person moving over 1000 miles, and the owner of the company knows this, I imagine they will be understanding if you opt out.

And if they weren't, you're probably better off getting out of there ASAP anyway.

I'm not saying it's fair, I'm saying it's often the case.

The temp is bad in the summer for a couple of months but the humidity is low. The best thing it is only $90.00 round trip to Vegas on America West. I lived in Chandler (a suburb) for a while and the only time I did not like it was in August.

Bleep

So..uhhh...what do you think of Pheonix?
OSU has won there twice, and I know a cute girl there. So Phoenix is a pretty cool place IMO.

When we visited Phoenix/Scottsdale May 2002, it was FILLED with hot college girls. Damn damn damn and my wife was with me.

Double damn!

😱

Please keep us updated on what your wife says. I would go for it.

ASU was rated by either Stuff or Maxim as being the "hottest" campus (in terms of women) a couple years ago 😀

does your wife work?

if so you have to factor in the loss of income until she can find a job where you move....hoping she can find one that pays the same or more than where she is currently.

They'd pay moving expenses completely. I'd have a company paid vehicle and they would pick up all of my traveling expenses when I do travel...IE schedule a trip to Iowa and take an extra day or two off and go see my parents or my friends and have the plane ticket and the rental vehicle paid for by the company.

As for extra pay, they obviously would give me a SOL adjustment, but I'd also see a heafty increase over what I'm making because I would be phasing out the role of a pricey contractor and would get a nice amount of that pay back in my pocket. I would also assume the role of a management position because I would have at the minimum, 2 people working directly under me.

My role is going to change more from a break fix position to that more of a management/top level support working with company wide changes on very large projects. I'd delegate out the small problems like hardware failures and software issues to the people below me.

The catch is that my wife doesn't graduate for another year and a half. She'd be done with class work at the time we moved, but then she'd still have a year of roations. Interestingly enough, one of her classmates here in Iowa is doing a rotation within 30 minutes of where my office would be located.

I seriously did not go into work today expecting this conversation.

I do own a house here in Iowa but I have a couple ways I could go with that.

One way is to have my wife continue to live up here for a while and have my company pay me "rent" each month for staying at my own home instead of paying for a hotel room if I was to come up here for work.

The other option is to rent it out to my wifes classmates so that they have places to stay when they go on their rotations.

I wouldn't necessarily have to sell it.

Hope your relationship with your wife is that strong..

It's hard to have long distance relationship, even if you are married..

They have to, CA takes more than they should and keeps wasting it.

You're in a very good position overall. I'd definitely take it, even if it is only for a couple of years. Especially if you can rent your house out easily, they'll pay your mortgage for you! Check into transfer opportunities for your wife (sounds like a medical field), I'm sure there are ways for her to transfer out to Phoenix.

Hot ... damn hot.
I traveled down there on business a few times i mid summer. Nice place to visit and all that but to damn hot for me.

Moving from Iowa to Phoenix??? You even have to ask?

Lived there for a year and a half. It's a great place and booming. The Pacific Ocean is not that far away, neither is Vegas. Traffic is a little biyatch though, but only if you don't carpool.
