I'll be suspicious too if student take bathroom break during exam. But getting upset if they did that during normal lecture? Gosh, some teachers are indeed an overly sensitive or an annoying human being.
I also teach. If a student isn't intelligent enough to plan restroom breaks without disrupting my class, they have no business in an institute of higher learning. Of course, there can be exceptions but not on a continual basis. I don't stop a class to go to the restroom, you can afford me the same courtesy.

Sorry, but stuff happens. Especially in larger college where student might have to haul themselves from one corner of the university to the other in 10-15 minutes time, where they don't have time to take bathroom break in between. And how about people with sensitive bladder ? I guess they might as well don't drink at all for the entire morning ? As long as they take their break with common courtesy, I can't imagine it will cause so much disturbance to waste your precious class time. Why don't you put that policy in your syllabus so student with common sense know which teacher to avoid.
Its pathetic that some teacher still rule their class with an iron fist, their way or nothing at all. It sux even more if they are college professor with tenure and behave like the all mighty one that the university can't touch. If a teacher choose to be a prick and can't accomodate and be flexible to a simple basic need, they don't have no business teaching at all, not to mention teaching in an institute of higher learning. Unfortunately with our educator crunch, people like this will be able to find jobs at most school.

I am off to bed. I have to get up early tomorrow and install X10 cameras in my classroom in case anyone slouches in their chair while my back is turned.

I had a teacher who was biased against me, and worked extra hard to fail me. It was kinda funny because of a assignments graded out of 10 points, i would receive a 3 or 4 point deductions...until he got to the end, seeing he had no more to deduct...decides to take off another 5 points...:)

It was the most frustrating experience I've ever had in college...knowing I would never really do well because the teacher was holding me back. But in this day of the information age, with a little investigation, one can do much damage to another...especially an individual that holds a grudge for many years......

Your engrish needs to go.

Edit 1 someone had to be an @sshole so this time it was me.

Edit 3 I hope your first language is not english.

To be honest with you, English is not my first language.
The class I mentioned was a foreign language class, which is my primary language.

Your writing was quite clear. As good as many native English speakers.

I'd definitely bring a recorder with me if I know this was gonna happen. :(

Well, I only go to bathroom three times during this semester, which I think it is not consider as too often.
Anyhow, if he's got a problem with bathroom problem, he should have let me know instead of yelling at me :(
Btw, other ppl go to bathroom too, and he had no problem with them :|

I am a native speaker of that language class, so it's just a piece a cake for me!

A few things to do here... file a complaint against him. Seek legal aid. Write letters.

Another thing you should check is if you can actually receive credit for a language class if you are a native speaker. At my university, you don't receive foreign language credit if you are a native speaker.

If all else fails, drop the class.

You should tell him the basic facts:

"I pay to go to this school, so if I decide to take a crap, so be it. I'm paying your salary so I can take a duece, in the middle of class, if I damn well please."

You have two options ;

(1)Piss in his cheerios (Hard to do)
(2)Piss in his gas tank (Easy to do)

In absolute seriousness, why don't you take a recorder to class, that way if he causes any future problems, you have evidence of his inapropriate behavior.

If you arew guiltless you might believe it. What does it matter what this guy says or does if it has nothing to do with you. We's nuts in that case, not you. It bothers you because you believeit on some level. Don't and he won't matter. naturally that's no easy 'don't' but realizing that it's not us but the other person who has a problem is a first step in detaching from the situation and being 1 in control and 2 free from getting emotionally entangled yourself. Good luck. Be happy.

So if you're a native speaker, why are you taking the class in the first place?

Forget it, I know the answer to that question.
