"That one"...... i.e. "It"...... i.e. "That Thing over there"..... Such a fine way to refer to another "person" that is equal in station and stature.

Yep, that was definetly a gesture of mutual respect and regard.:disgust:

I guess that would explain my countless posts about Obama being too far to the right.

Including several on his FISA vote - and the scheme to let him off his promise.

I don't see the concern. What relevance does this have to anything?

It's a flare in his talking style. I frequently refer to my children as "it" to my wife. It's a joke.

I do agree with loki, though, if nothing changes how we vote, it should be this. This is HUGE.

I think it is ridiculous people are focusing on this, people are inferring he wanted to insert a derogatory term there,... that is fantasy and playing the race card once again by those who want an advantage by inferred insults,...

NOONE can say that it was truly inferred, only McCain knows his true feelings and what he meant. I truly felt it was just a lapse of speech where he didn't have the name at mind and spoke in an "easy mannerism" which we all can do,... should a president be ever vigilant towards those lapses,.. yes. But other than a lack of protocal here, there is nothing to be made of it, though people obviously want to make something of it.

I don't know what he was trying to infer but IMO it was no lapse.

If you say it was no lapse, it was then planned right,... what are you inferring it was???

It was disrespectful -- should refer to him as "Senator Obama" or "my opponent", for example -- but it's not worth making a fuss. There are far more important issues in this campaign.

I don't think it was planned, but I'm also skeptical to believe you when you infer that he couldn't remember Obama's name.

I'll agree with finger on this one.

I clearly stated I don't know what he was inferring but I don't think it was intended to be racial or anything of the like To me he was using it for shock value. Given the point he was trying to make was a BS half-truth (like most debate material) I guess he though he needed to make emphasis on it. That's my guess anyway.

Really? I thought he did.

No, he did not. McCain patted Obama on the back, Obama put out his hand and McCain, McCain kind of acted like he didnt see it, but he was too close not to see it. Obama then moved it over to Cindy and she shook it. and it all seemed polite and could easily be seen as one of those awkward social moments... or as disrespectful. Considering they are politicians after a debate, McCain should have made sure he shook... Like coaches after a football game.

Neither of these guys is extremely eloquent. They both have trouble glibly coming off with comprehensible proper English sentences. Maybe it's because they've been reading, saying, reiterating pre-conceived campaign sentences for so long, or at least partly. For this reason, the debate was painful to watch. Bill Clinton was the candidate who had melifluous ready English.

Ill ask this again, what were they doing right at the end of the debate? This is such a stupid topic btw.

Right after, when Brokaw asked them to move? I am not sure... some people thougth they might have shook. I didnt notice. The point is that McCain was disrespectful the whole time. Listen to Wolf Blitzer again int he clip... Even he noticed it.

Mellifluous, nice word even though you spelled it wrong.

Agreed, they seemed to stutter/stammer a lot. Like their pentium CPU's were overheating and were taking awhile to read programs from the RAMM (memory).

I don't know what you were watching - Obama is extraordinarily articulate, and is able to form sentences and even paragraphs incorporating abstract concepts in a planned order meant to enhance their drama, off the top of his head (I'm wary of saying he is truly speaking extemporaneously, since he has clearly been preparing for these debates, but obviously he doesn't know the precise questions to be asked and in many instances framed his answers to respond to answers given by McCain). Clinton might be the ONLY other Presidential candidate in my lifetime who was as naturally skilled (though Reagan was also very effective, for somewhat different reasons).

Oh okay. I thought you were referring to the conclusion of the town hall when when they were done talking. I see you were discussing the very end when they were making the rounds to the audience. Ok. I see your point and I agree, McCain should have just shook his hand and then directed him to shake Cindy's. It would have taken about 5 seconds.

Obama's centrist-ism is why I've been backing him all along, despite a whole year of FUD about how he's a radical, a marxist, a whatever.

He's not McCain lite though, because McCain, if elected, would be beholden to the extreme right, complete with one of their own as VP. Obama will not be so burdened, with most of his support coming from the center. I won't speak for them, but I assume that's why the lefty fringe element supports Obama despite his Clintonian centrist-ism.

 Only a blind BHO bot would attempt to claim "most of his support coming from the center". Sheesh....

******

And as far as the OP - puhleeze... that's the best you got from the debate? Sounds a bit desperate for something to bash with.

They were hugging while Brokaw asked them to move. I am pretty sure in the hug there was a handshake.

This stupid shit is exactly what politicians want us bickering over. Did he or didnt he shake his hand? Oh the horror!!!!!!!!!!! While we bicker over a handshake they dance on through doing what they please laughing at the minions bickering.

yes yes.... we all know the call was put out long ago to try to suggest McCain is "disrespectful" but boy oh boy are you people reaching with your attempts to do so. The first debate you morons said he was disrespectful because he didn't look at BHO. now you want to suggest that saying "that one" is disrespectful? Not to mention the absolutely false notion that McCain wouldn't shake BHO's hand.

You people are a trip. So blinded by partisanship you can't even see how stupid your statements and actions are. Oh well... party on garth...
