let me add to that:
- Class goes back to normal if you're lucky
- hated student decides to ask follow up question after follow up question
- 5 minutes to go, professor says "well if there aren't anymore questions, you guys can leave early"
- hated student proceeds to ask more questions thus everyone has to stay put.

I had a CS class with a guy that did that almost everyday. It got to the point that the professor started making fun of him so he finally shut up.

What irritated me was the ones that thought they knew more then the professor and everyone else in class. So they would either ask really stupid questions about the topic. OR try there best to show off or show up the Prof.

EXACTLY...i hated those smart asses that would try to show off but just wasted time and made an ass of themselves

okay, I shouldn't correlate "being hated" and "being successful" together.

I know a business man who just won't stop demand a better price from both his vendors and suppliers, my dad and his business pals all hated him, but he is "somewhat" successful; I must give him that.

When I saw the title for this thread, I immediately knew what this post is about. There's always at least one and if there's an older person in the class, then he or she is the one. I figure older people do this because they feel like the professor is their peer, even when the professor is obviously annoyed.

I thought I had one, she was like that for the first few weeks. She was severely into computers for 11ty years back in the day - and then after high school, she moved out and just CRASHED. Never touched one again until 4 weeks ago.

Fortunately, she's starting to remember all the things from BackInTheDay(TM) and realize that they really have not changed. She has no intarweb experience, but she learns FAST. She called my desk a few hours ago. Was having problems with her home internet connection (normally, I'd just refer her to her ISP, but she'd mentioned to me before class that she'd called them and they gave her the runaround saying it was her fault, so I told her to call me and I'd track it down). After about 15 minutes I'd determined without a doubt that Verizon was responsible (her CO is unplugged from the rest of the world, it seems). She was actually very, very, helpful and actually started understanding the things I was asking her to do on her own.

You know, I actually read this entire thread out of some morbid curiosity and have reached a conclusion. Alomst no one under age 30 has the slightest idea of what school or learning is, nor could they give a damn.
