Yeah, we have one in my class. Always drag the class to a halt. Only difference is she is over 40.

it's the worst when they ask obviously stupid questions and still try to argue with the professor.. how retarded.. if your'e gonna ask a question, and he answers you, why the hell are you gonna argue it?! moron!

i remember there was this group of like.. 3 or 4 grad students in a upper division undergrad elective class.. anyway.. these three would always ask the stupidest questions, and always try to argue... god damnit man, he's the f-ing chair of the ME department.. i think he knows what he's talking about

I love the one in Computer Security Fundamentals, he could not get it through your head that by giving someone your algorithm they could instantly get your key. And he still refuses to beleive that letting others critque your algorithm would help to make it more secure.

Oh i just remembered. Right now on my saturday class, this lady always comes late to class and then starts asking questions not relating to the topic.
I'm taking background of economics and she starts asking questions about economics itself, like current events.

The class is already 7 hours long and always starts to ask questions when the proffesor is ready to let us go for the day... ahhhh

I don't understand what's wrong with these people. This one in my physics class, basic physics. Its the easiest class I have and he just asks so many questions that slow down everyone else.

Gah. I had one for a few years in practically every class. Called her "head-up-ass-girl". She wasn't very bright, but she got way better marks in class than I did cause she did homework for 6 hrs/day and monopolized the prof's office hours and class time. She turned every class into a 1 on 1 tutor relationship.

I would have loved to take her out to the bar, get her hammered and nail her till she couldn't walk. She wasn't hot, but it's just the principle :p

edit: anyone ever have a prof own one of those kids? I had it happen once, but my friend has a good story.

Girl in class asks questions just to be noticed. Every class she has a few. So the prof writes this long 20 minute proof of some theorem (math) on the board. She asks him to repeat "that last part". He asks which part. She says "uh, all of it." He says "No! I'm not going to waste another 20 minutes going through all of that just for you! Come to my office hours if you really don't get it."

:D

It did seem that the older class members asked more questions, but I think it had more to do with them being greatful for having the opportunity to be in class, updating their education, that they tried to maximize their use of the resources.

I instead had problems with two other kinds of students - the SMARTaSS and the IDIOT. The former would argue every point with the prof, eager to proove him/her wrong and show off their massive nerd intellect (while the rest of us nerds were satisfied to let it show through our assignments and evaluations). They'd waste time every class fighting over these trivial details, and pissed me off. The latter group wasn't as malicious in their wasting of my time, but almost more annoying. If you have to ask the prof to explain the same idea three times, perhaps you're in the wrong major. Can't you try to figure it out on your own time, maybe play with the code a bit and come up with some sample programs, instead of wasting thirty peoples' time.

The best professor quote came from such a student. In Differential Equations, this girl is like "why would you do it that way, it's so retarded!" and the professor goes "well, there have only been about 1,000 papers written on this equation, but you are right, it is retarded. so we'll name it after you, the retard equation." he then proceeds to write "retard equation" on the board.

Yes...I have two of those in my math class. One of those fvckers sits right behind me and everytime I hear his voice I want to turn around and punch him in the eye.

By my fourth year in university I took to simply telling these types of clowns to shut up. And they did, which is weird because I'm not really that intimidating. I guess lesser geek > greater geek. :p

too bad as they will be the most sucessful in their careers. They go after things and won't let up until the problem is solved or the information is discovered. Using every available resource.

these are the winners.

Oh, I don't agree. I tended to be pretty close with my professors, and always sat in the first couple of rows to better combat another tendency of mine - sleeping during class. My observation was that when one of these students gets going, the entire class - including the professor - collectively try to exhale their frustration. Then with the eyerolling and subtle sarcasm, which always goes unnoticed by the annoying person. Glances exchanged with those of us up front, who are usually alternating between gritting our teeth and laughing outright. Nobody likes these people except themselves.

Yeah, I had this Hispanic girl in my Algorithms class last semester that thought she could do anything she wanted and get away with it. She would ask stupid questions, laugh at other people when they asked good questions, talk on the cell phone in a loud voice during class (after the conversation picked up, she would slowly walk out of class), and just be plain annoying.

This one time she went outside to get something from the vending machine and she comes back in the middle of the lecture screaming: "The vending machine stole my dollar!!!"... aargh!!! :| :| :|

I'm glad I'll be done with college this semester!!
