Meh, I find it in a little bad taste. Not as bad as I originally was led to believe. A couple blocks away is more than enough considering how hard it is to find real estate there. Now if they were opening on 9/11 I would have been a bit more upset as it was alluded to earlier in this thread. Since it isn't, oh well. As others said, sometimes things are considered not just in poor taste but illegal to be there based upon zoning.
As examples:
You don't open up a new prison for pedophile sex offenders next to an elementary school do you?
You can not open up a strip club next to a school or church or amusement park.
You can not open an industrial manufacturing building in a residential neighborhood.
Well, not every city/county/state has zoning laws. Houston for example I know didn't have zoning laws for a long time. You can find some places where there is a strip joint, liquor store, church, and high school all right next door to each other on the same street. It's a little ridiculous to be sure and I think they've started addressing these.
On a personal note, being atheist, I would have no problem with no more places of worship being built anywhere. I find them all offensive places to brainwash people into delusions of fantasy that should not exist anymore. That's just me personally though. Because I respect the laws of this nation, I'm not upset enough to do anything about them in that regard. Easier to convince someone the fallacy of religion and get them to stop going than to try and remove a place of worship. No worshippers = no house of worship needed
