Finally, anyone who thinks Melloncamp is conservative or Republican knows nothing about him. The guy is about as liberal as they come.

i'm pretty sure i said way early in this thread that mellencamp hates the administration... yup, i did.

I wasn't addressing you with that post.

the irony is that it sounds like SUCH a republican song, yet john mellencamp hates the current administration... kinda like springsteen and "born in the usa"...

GODDAMMIT! THE FVCKING SONG IS ON AGAIN!

it's on EVERY DAMN COMMERCIAL BREAK! it doesn't matter what sport it is... it's ALWAYS on.

You mean its a very American song. Unless you're saying the democrats are hardly American.
In which case I'd agree.

No, he's saying that it's meant to exploit patriotism.

You're right, it was Dale Sr. I'm just so used to writing Dale Jr. and haven't even remotely thought of Dale Sr. since he crashed.

dear god, the only thing WORSE than a crappy commercial is when there are maybe 2-3 variations of it and they play them during EVERY break of a football game. so over a 3-4 hour game you see the same 2-3 commercials about 10 times an hour and want to shoot yourself in the head.

hasn't anyone done research that shows that OVER-advertising, regardless of whether the commercial is good or not, actually make advertising ineffective?

on a side note, NFL commercial breaks are unreal. i felt like i was listening to terrestrial radio. every time someone takes a break to tie their shoe there is a friggin commercial break for like 5 minutes

BTW, I think many of you are missing the point of the commercial. It's a direct stab at Nissan and Toyota full-size trucks.

The worst part is after a score.

Score (and maybe PAT), commercial break, kickoff (just one play!), commercial break.

I like the song, it's catchy. Pretty much everyone I know likes the song, other than it's been played too often.

republican?

I could very easily have been addressing you in that post, eits.

That's the second time you accused the song of being "Republican." Well, let's look at the lyrics, shall we?

I can stand beside
Things I think are right
And I can stand beside
The idea of stand and fight
And I do believe
There?s a dream for everyone
This is our country

From the east coast
To the west coast
Down the Dixie Highway
Back home
This is our country

There's room enough here
For science to live
And there's room enough here
For religion to forgive
And try to understand
The other people of this world

This is our country

From the east coast
To the west coast
Down the Dixie Highway
Back home
This is our country

That poverty could be
Just another ugly thing
And bigotry could be
Seen only as obscene
And the ones that run this land
Will help the poor and common man

This is our country

From the east coast
To the west coast
Down the Dixie Highway
Back home
This is our country

The dream will never leave
And some day it will come true
And it?s up to me and you
To do the best that we can do
And let the voice of freedom
Sing out through this land
This is our country

From the east coast
To the west coast
Down the Dixie Highway
Back home
This is our country

OK, eits. Please point out exactly what makes this song Republican?

Like all of Mellencamp's songs, this one is patriotic liberalism. Just as "Pink Houses" makes fun of people who are happy in their middle class and smears capitalism while claiming to love the US.

And I find it funny that you mentioned "Born in the USA" since it's actually an anti-US policy protest song.

But when you're bitching about these commercials, you're thinking about Chevy. That's the goal.

During the 1:00 Football games I would use this commercial as a signal to switch from one game to another, I swear to GOD I went from one to the other at least 10 times using this method.

So here's a question: Are more trucks purchased by Democrats or Republicans? Just from this ad, Chevy must think their customer base is Democrats. What do you think?

That add is republican all the way. Even has a picture of Dale Earnhardt Jr. to seal the deal.

NASCAR = conservative sesspool

No, most nascar fans are southern democrats...
