So here's a question: Are more trucks purchased by Democrats or Republicans? Just from this ad, Chevy must think their customer base is Democrats. What do you think?

That add is republican all the way. Even has a picture of Dale Earnhardt Jr. to seal the deal.

NASCAR = conservative sesspool

I guess you've never heard of southern democrats.

yeah, they're few and far between. most southern democrats = republicans.

But the Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA was being misinterpreted by Ronald Reagan as a patriotic song. I thought it was about Vietnam vets facing difficulties at home after the war.

That's Dale Sr. Unless there's a version with Jr. that I haven't seen.

I like how everyone in the ad is some corn fed blue collar joe sixpack. In 20 years, almost no one in the US will do that kind of work.
Oh come on, do you really believe there won't be any blue collar workers here in the US in 20 years? Would Honda and Toyota really be building new factories here if they thought they'd be worthless in 20 years? We're not going to start importing grain either.

On John Mellencamp's website, he had a small blurb about the song for a while. Then, when it started cropping up in Chevy ads, he changed the blurb slightly to reflect the partnership with Chevrolet. Bill Simmons wrote a column complaining about the song because its on so much and calling Mellencamp a huge sellout basically, and now the blurb on his website is gone.

Edit: Here's a link to the column I was talking about. You've got to scroll down a bit.

Its a great song. Mellencamp is one artist that hasn't fallen off too much in his old age.

Chargers/Cleveland game, it came on during every single goddamn commercial break

That does not make me feel more patriotic and especially not want to by a Chevy.

How many songs does Mellencamp have that reference America or the U.S. or whatever... I swear he uses madlibs and plugs in patriotic words...

I don't know what's worse, the fact that he writes this crap or that people still buy into it. He knows exactly what he is doing by following the formula that made him a ton of cash (and conveniently doing it after a wave of American tragedies in the last few years).

Mellencamp's music is to art what Crisco is to health food.

I just wish Toyota or Nissan would respond with a commercial that said something along the lines of:

"Hey, at least our vehicles are built in your country, unlike GM and Ford that build theirs in Canada and Mexico".

you really think more truck owners are democrats? really?

It's amazing how ignorant some people are of politics. Most union construction workers are blue collar. Most union members are Democrat.

Not all Democrats are latte slurping metros who have delusions of elitism. Many are misguided blue collar conservative folks who have been misled into thinking Democrats support the "working man" because they cater to union protection rackets.

Finally, anyone who thinks Melloncamp is conservative or Republican knows nothing about him. The guy is about as liberal as they come.

yeap it was Dale Sr.

that is what put it over the top. the commercial is to over done. I was at a friends house watching the Bears game (yeah grossman!) when that commercial came on NOBODY likes it.

i should mention nearly everyone there is a redneck. nearly all have been in the military, all hunt etc, all like nascar and such. almost all work on or own farms (or owned at one point heh).

they all think they are just trhying to cash in and the picture of Dale Sr. just pisses them off.
