Spunky,
If they would've never called to remind me (which they shouldn't have) the first time, I would've never thought about it again. Hell, if they would've never called a second time to remind me again I wouldn't have thought about it again, either. It wasn't that big of a deal to go get that chair because even after the second call I still waited another 2 days before actually getting in there.
You see. This is where you cross the line into becoming an asshat thief.

Hope you're proud of yourself.

You really are such an "outlaw".

Dishonest=wrong. Duh :roll:

Did you at any point tell Staples that you had already picked up your chair? I can't believe you stole from Staples even after the manager was nice enough to give you a chair without a receipt.

You suck.

No, I don't suck.

And to clear that up, I went in and stood in line in Customer Service and told them I had lost my receipt and wondered if they could look up my order and print me a new one. Well I had to wait a while so the manager could get some time to do it, easily 45 mins... and finally he went to the back and looked up my order and printed me a new receipt and told me that he thinks they received them today and if I wanted to ahead take one, I could and I did.

so you're trying to justify your theft because you stood in line for 45 minutes? you really do SUCK.:roll:

They thought you didn't get the chair you paid for!!! They are trying to make sure you get the merchandise that you paid for, trying to provide good service. At that point you simpley tell them that you already have the chair, end of story.

There is no question about it at all - you stole from them.

Quick help needed from the OP:
Which store did you steal this from?
East 71st Street in Tulsa?
South Harvard Street in Tulsa?
or E. Shawnee Road in Muskogee?

I just figured someone would want to send the store an email with a link to the page where you admit to stealing from them :)

In this instance i think the OP was wrong to keep the 2nd chair.

I myself had something happen with Amazon.co.uk a few months ago....

ordered some DVD-Audio discs, as i was taking a week off work the following week and as it was thursday i opted for 1st class post (next day delivery after dispatch) to make sure i got them for my week off.
Well, a whole week came and went, so i emailed Amazon, who said they would look into it, they emailed back quickly, said they couldnt find them their end so out of goodwill they will send me the package again no extra charge.
The package dispatched a day later, the following day to that a package turns up at my house...turns out to be the original! so i email amazon and tell them, they email back saying once the second package turns up to return one of the to the address supplied blah blah.
So the second one turns up within another day. Quickly i just like to say i think that was very good of them to act so quickly and decently.
Only problem is, 2 months on and i keep forgetting to post the other one back...lol. I havent even opened the package so i havnt used anything i shouldnt be. Im just terrible when it comes to things like posting letters or parcels, really terrible. I would feel bad if i opened it up and say sold on the items, but i just cant get round to posting the damn thing...lol. So i dont feel bad, and i dont think i've been bad as such as these arnt items that will deteriorate with time or become outmoded, i will eventually do it, i promise, if only because Amazon acted so swiftly and nicely.

edit: btw, im not looking for salvation from the posters of AT...just to clear that up, i wrote all that cuz im at work and bored senseless and it passed some time....hehe

That's all I was asking, everybody's opinions. I still have the choice of being an honest customer and giving it back, it's still in possesion (not my roomates) and is still unopened. Don't forget that.

how is this their bad record keeping? you are the one who lost your receipt. you were just as bad, if not worse, with the record keeping.

what you did was wrong. i am not bashing you, but why did you come here and ask this? you clearly knew it was wrong since you said you knew it wasnt honest.

dishonest = wrong, no matter what

yes, you are wrong.

i did something like that once. the insurance company is supposed to send me a new card with my newborn son name included, but after a couple of weeks i never got it. so i called them up from work and they said that they are mistaken, so they are going to send me my new insurance card right away. that very day i came home from work and found that there was this letter from the insurance company, including the new insurance card that i have been waiting for inside.

a few weeks later, as suspected, i received another insurance card, which i supposed was the one that was sent to me when i called them up. so i have two copies of insurance cards, just like you have two chairs.

wait.. THAT IS NOT THE SAME THING!!

anyway, go ahead and enjoy your holiday, hopefully your conscience didn't bother you.

Jeez man what were you thinking. Now that you took a second $40 dollar chair that Staples paid $5 for the owner isnt going to have enough money to buy his new gulfstream 5. He is just going to have to wait till next year to replace his gulfstream 4. You are a monster.

One time I ordered Quake 2 from an online retailer and recieved one copy via Fedex and one copy via UPS. Sold the second copy to my friend.

Their bad because they should've kept track that they gave me the first chair, IMO. I did lose my receipt and went back to fix MY bad recordkeeping and if they couldn't have found my receipt, I was SOL to my knowledge and didn't know they would be calling me anyway.

The bashing has been somewhat harsh, but deserved. I've stated why I asked already, it was for you guys' opinions. Nobody thought that I could have possibly posted it for ulterior motives such as the replies could make me feel guilty instead of getting lucky and in turn, I would return the chair.

Also, I edited the original post to say I knew it wasn't honest, blah blah.... And I after more thorough thought, DISHONEST == WRONG.

btw, if you couldn't find your receipt the first time, how could you get the chair the second time by presenting a receipt? did you lost it and find it later?

Just because you can take advantage of something or someone doesn't make it right. Ethics is having that power and making the right decision. Do the right thing next time... (Can you see me way up here on my horse?)

The first time I got a chair I had originally went in there to just get my receipt, but I was told they just received the chairs that morning or the night before and they asked if I would like to my chair at that time and I said sure. They let me take the receipt and chair with me.

The second time I went in to get a chair, I presented that SAME receipt they printed off for me the first time, after they had called me two different times to come get the chair. Again, I left with that same receipt they printed for me and the second chair.

I beleive that answers your question.

Maybe tomorrow If i am bored I will look up the order since I have your name and know exactly what item you purchased. Its really not that hard. But I wont because its not really any of my business. This stuff really makes me mad though, I have busted A LOT of scams at my staples, even got this punk blacklisted from the website. Staples has some of the better CSR's, the BEST rebates and its GOOD customer service like this thats abused. :(

Yep, I see you up there. Ethics is something I'm proud of in myself and after all these posts, I've realized I've let myself down and it's pretty pathetic. That's not what scares me the most. This post does:

Too add to this... but not for empathy, I could really use the extra $40 right now. It'll help me make up my losses I had to account for this weekend when someone broke into my house. This is also not an excuse either.

Just like I thought. I post something I did wrong and I get jumped on and a$$-reamed. I return it and do the right thing and not one "good decision" reply.
