Ms. Pelosi made a similar choice ? but in the opposite direction. Anxious to curry favor with the male rulers of the Middle East, she failed to comprehend that as an American woman, a symbol of Western democracy and secularism as well as a guardian of women's rights, her agenda should have rested elsewhere.

He has a great point. Where the new education minister (a woman) in Kuwait took her office without wearing a veil this damn hippy from California currys favor with these jerks by wearing one. She is from AMERICA - why in the hell should she?

Simple, it was a photo op and a poke at Bush - nothing more. She and other so called femminist don't care one bit about women in the middle east, well at least until they themselves are in power they won't.

Laura Bush wears one.

Christianne Amanpour wears one.

Too bad we are talking to Syria and Iran now, something that was encouraged by Pelosi the traitor.

Yet another worthless thread dude.

Wonders if the OP has a job other than being the "beacon of light" for the P&N crowd. This one is really weak.

You forget, Laura Bush can do no wrong, just like her husband. Christianne Amanpour is one of those media liberals who should be kicked out of this country.

....
* nobody covers their face in the M.E except for people who originated from Saudi Arabia.
* the only M.E nations that have dress codes for women (world) are Iran/Saudi Arabia

So I fail to see how Pelosi is a traitor

Just to make your thread created as a result of your lack of knowledge of Islam/M.E and because you want to attack the Democrats:

First Lady of Egypt

Egypt is the largest Muslim nation in the M.E

Turkey
Headscarfs banned in government buildings.

2nd Largest Muslim nation in the M.E (tied with Iran)

Queen of Jordan

Stone her to death already

and the finale... drum roll please

Do you hear it?

First lady of Syria, the nation you accused Pelosi of visiting and having no care for "women's rights"

Should we start the stoning?

Wow, the Queen of Jordan is HOT.

What happened to the saying "When in Rome"?

Sorry to say that people in other parts of the world live their life how they see fit. Its not our business to go there and try to change them. "Its for the better"? Who's to say what is right or wrong with how other cultures and people run their lives? The women in those countries are probably perfectly happy with how life is for them? The only reason they'd find unhappiness is because we go there telling them how miserable they are. If they have always lived that way, its what they are used to and they are fine with it.

Aren't people free to live their life how they want? Isn't that freedom, or is it only freedom when we tell them how to run their life?

I think the point that is trying to be made is that while all these countries don't force women to wear headscarfs anymore (or never did, whatever), Pelosi's wearing of one is a symbolic step backwards for women of the region. (that's the best way I can find to articulate it)

To play devil's advocate, the exact same argument could be used when looking at slavery in America from the view of a country which did not condone it at the time.

when Pelosi was walking in downtown Damascus her scarf is not on her head. When she met with the President of Syria she had nothing on her to symbolize a scarf.

She had one on her when she visited a mosque.. which is required.

Let's make fun of her now.. oh wait.. that's the job of FoxNews.

Bush hugged a man in a religious ceremony as was customary in the culture.

Let's make fun of him now. For several weeks. Then let's bring it up again a few months later and make fun of him some more.

Gotta remember---when GWB and Cheney get impeached--she will be President Pelosi----the righties have to stock the pantry with an advance supply of Pelosi bashing cans, bottles, boxes, and jars. And like a perpetually drunk bar tender, they have to keep sampling their wares to makes sure they stock the best rotgut.

But if the righties can stomach Rice without hooping all over the place, they can get used to anything.

I never saw this, let alone did I hear anyone make fun of this. Does this make it OK to come up with insults towards "the other side?"

It's one example of the everyday antics of many of the left on this board, yet nobody seems to care.

Why are you calling me out, and not the Bush-bashers?

This thread is about bashing Polosi, not Bush. My point is that bashers on both sides are idiots with short memories. Please note that I am referring to bashing over trivial matters, like this or Bush hugging a man. When it comes to monumental screw ups, bashing is necessary 😛

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to bash Bush... however there is far more time here devoted to bashing him for similar reasons.

I agree. Again, my point is that just because one side does it, doesn't mean the other side too. Those bashing Bush for petty things are petty people 🙂
