I've never had Thai food before, so my wife and I decided to try the place downtown. I like food with a little kick to it so I ordered one of their dishes marked "hot". It was a green pepper curry chicken, and the guy asked how hot I wanted it. I was a bit confused as I didn't know it was an option and just gave him a blank look.
He asked me on a scale of one to five, how hot I wanted it. I said four, thinking I'd be safe.
Big mistake.
I have NEVER eaten something that hot before. After taking a big bite, my wife starting laughing out loud as my face turned bright red, my eyes watered like crazy, and my nose started running. Fortunately I had enough rice, water and beer (Singha, a Thai beer which was actually pretty good) to get the rest of the meal down without crying.
If you like spicy food, give Thai a try. But you may want to ease into it a bit. :Q
