[TFTCentral - Review] Acer XB270HU - 27" 144Hz IPS G-Sync

I got my panel yesterday. No dead pixels or blacklight bleed. Color and gamma calibration is excellent as well. The panel quality is great, however my main complaint is that this panel suffers from rather bad IPS glow. Now if I was coming from a lower grade monitor I would say this thing is awesome, however my previous monitor is a X-star/Qnix, which is known for having just about perfect image quality and contrast. That being the case, I'm not really satisfied with the Acer for its price and will probably be sending it back. YMMV, and it depends on what games you play. Lately I've been playing Elite Dangerous and it looks pretty bad, the IPS glow actually washes out the starfield on the edges of the screen. If you play primarily shooters or games that generally don't have dark areas though it may not be a problem.

Did you mess the the temperature settings to see if it fixes it? The run bright sometimes and can adjust in OSD

Got mine today! Everything seems ok. Played some H1Z1, watched some a movie, colors seems great, no backlight bleed at all, pixels seem great.

Its a little brighter than my older monitor, but nothing can't adjust.

The only real issue so far, which is not a huge deal, some games don't like this rez, maybe just need to reinstall game, like H1Z1 (its alpha right now) keeps defaulting to surround gaming on all 3 monitors. Have to manually put in rez in Ini file.

Some 2nd scrolling games (craft the world) only has a max rez of 1900x1200 to.

Other than that, great looking monitor.

Does anyone know how to disable DSR in control panel completely? For some reason games are trying to default to it on, and they wont start. I did not have this on old monitor for some reason.

As far as I can tell it just gives option to change scaling, but no actual OFF.

Uncheck all boxes. Then it'll say off.

It does not have that option, just to change settings..no off.

I have no idea what is going on, but H1Z1 just won't start at 2460x1440. Reinstalled nvidia drivers, reinstalled game, hooked up just this monitor. Go back to old monitor..works fine. heh

Mmm

nv control panel -> Manage 3D settings -> DSR Factors

You unchecked all those and clicked apply, right? It will say "Off" at that point.

Ok that was weird, i went to check it and it was off, it disabled itself when i unhooked the other 2 monitors?

reinstalled geforce experience, apparent nvidia is having site issues cause can't connect to it to refresh it atm.

You probably made a typo. But just in case not: the resolution is 2560x1440. It seems that if you try to start a game in a resolution that doesn't exist (because of a typo when editing ini files), games start in very low resolution, or don't start at all.

If indeed it was a typo, ignore me.

It was a typo in post here, still have not figured out what is wrong. Oh well, just one game really i like to play. I really have no idea what could be wrong to.

She's here ! She's beautiful ! Not a dead pixel in sight.

I do notice a very slight difference in response time from the Acer to the Asus, the Asus being a tad bit more fluid, but goodness the colors and resolution of this Acer !

Hopefully nobody gets one that looks like these pictures posted on hard forum.

Digital cameras and LCDs don't mix very well. The bottom photo looks very typical and normal (of a digital camera pic of an LCD in a darker room).

I got real lucky, i have zero back light bleed. My old one had some on bottom but don't notice it most the time.

only notice 3 games i got that don't like this screen size, but they are a few years old.

I was on the fence about returning mine but then I got a dead pixel appear which wasn't there originally. I've never seen that happen before. I may try exchanging for a new one but I may not due to the bad IPS glow. I really want to love this monitor but it's not quite there.

I'm wondering if it's the way gysnc handles OD that's killing the pixels(some kind of overcompensation) or are these pixels dead out of the box. Those of you that own these monitors, are the pixels dying on you during use or are they DOA?

It's not unheard of for a dead pixel to develop when screen first being used, much like the occasional new hdd crashing, electronic infant mortality. But it should not continue.

Any updated thoughts on these vs. anything else coming down the pipes? Thinking of picking one up before Witcher 3 drops. Not that my 980 needs that extra strain...

If I need to return it for pixels or crazy backlight bleed it Newegg amenable or should I stick to Amazon?

The QA on these has been pretty awful overall but newer batches are showing signs of improving.

If you go newegg get premier.
