I wonder how Valve profits from endlessly updating cheap game? More people get drawn to Steam?
TF2 is a heck of a deal for any price you paid.

Just read HD for all the people that can't help but buy the Steam weekend deals. If more people are using Steam, the more attractive it looks to developers that want to get their games published. Also they probably got enough in profits with the Orange Box to keep everyone working on the updates.

Payload race is going to be very interesting. It's going to take some better teamwork.

Looks fantastic. I can't wait for that one.

Anyone here play Arena maps? I've never really tried them.

I've played them. Watchtower is my fav.
Open enough for snipers to be useful, yet close enough that scouts are useful.

Cool, I'll have to check that out.

The Razorback Shield looks pretty neat too. For some reason I feel as if I do not get backastabbed that often as a Sniper. I rarely stay in the same spot for long, so maybe that's why, or maybe I've just blocked the backstabs out of my memory.

I have never once unlocked anything in TF2. I am only vaguely aware of the existence of unlockable weapons, but since they appear to be impossible to get unless you play the game religiously, I really don't care. Far as I can tell, the game is exactly the same as it was on day 1.

It's still a good game but honestly I can't be assed to spend hours a day achievement whoring in order to unlock this stuff. I don't even know what the achievements are or how I'd go about unlocking them. There seem to be a ton of them and I'm not good enough at the game to get more than a couple, and then only by accident.

I play the game quite a bit, but there are classes I rarely play (Heavy for example) where I have unlocked all of the additional weapons just playing the class periodically over time. I have never once used an achievement server for any of the unlocks and I don't even really know what most of the achievements are, I just happen to get them over time, through normal gameplay.

They really are not very difficult to get.

they're not that hard to get. i don't try to get achievements which makes it fun when i do get one and when i unlock something. i play with the default stuff and at some point i'm rewarded with the unlock which is kinda cool.

I posted on that topic on the valve forums...

As sniper is my main class, I'm here to inform everyone here that the razorback will not find it's way into my inventory. Everyone here seems to underestimate the loss of the kuri or SMG(has that been announced?), and speed.

First, lets imagine I equip the razorback at the cost of my kuri. Spy backstabs me, his knife is useless. Unfortunately, I can't turn around and slam him with a melee weapon now, instead, I'll fire SMG everywhere hoping to hit him, chances are, at that close range I won't hit him with enough bullets to kill him, certainly not faster than 3 Revolver shots, and now I'm dead.

Second, if it replaces the SMG. My entire close-mid range dmg output is now gone. If a spy revolvers me, I'll have to charge him with a kuri, certain death, or hope for a quick headshot from 5 feet, unlikely. I'm dead.

Third, I lose speed. If nobody has played Sniper vs Sniper before, let me tell you, I need to be moving as fast as possible in order to keep bullets from lodging in my skull. Losing the key ability of moving out from and back behind cover quickly renders me useless at sniper vs. sniper combat, I may as well have signed my own death warrant.

In conclusion, the razorback sucks, and if anything, is terribly underpowered for it's purpose(that is, protection from spies).

I have a feeling that the Razorback would be more useful when used with the Huntsman bow. The bow doesn't take as long to charge as a rifle shot plus you get the added bonus of (possibly) being able to track a spy if you hit them.

Some of the group of people I usually play with suggested a bear trap as an anti-spy measure. It stops the victim in their tracks for 3-4 seconds, hurts them a small amount and makes a loud noise letting you know it had gone off.

You seem to be forgetting one small aspect of all this, and that's that you're still alive in a backstab scenario if you had the razorback on. It doesn't matter how useful your SMG or kuri is if you just died to a spy. Let's say the razorback replaces the kuri - a spy tries to backstab you, and now you have to use your SMG to try to spray him back. You might not be able to kill him, but at the very least you'll get to alert others to his presence while hurting him.

Exactly, you're still alive to yell spy and more than likely get someone else to kill him.

So I'm guessing the razorback does not protect the sniper from other melee weapons, such as medic's saw?

Yeah, I'm not too sure I like the razorback.... The concept seems nice, but the trade-offs are definitely not worth it. I usually tend to try to snipe right at the front lines, using choke-points and immediate cover to keep me safe the very instant I see incoming fire. Mobility plays a big part in being able to give me the chance to get one or two shots in before I have to get my ass in gear and dodge incoming fire and withdraw into friendly territory. Without that mobility, there goes one of my favorite ways of playing sniper. This type of play-style means that I am mostly playing in areas where there are high amounts of team traffic and spy checking, thus reducing the need for the razorback.

While playing the more traditional sniper role of staying back, you should still be somewhat aware of your environment thus reducing the chances of a spy getting near you. You should also be strategically positioning yourself so that you have cover from your enemies yet in a position that, once again, has a high amount of team traffic and spy checking.

That all seems to make sense except for the update hasn't been released yet and you havn't used any of the new weapons.

I could see this razorback being very useful for certain maps and positions.

Well, the bow seems irrelevant on the maps I play on, as does the razorback.
When's this launching, so I can note on my calendar not to play tf2 for 3 weeks afterwards cause nothing is less fun then a sniper wank-fest?

Is it ever possible for a sniper to survive a spy's backstab? The whole idea of being able to turn around and defend yourself 'after the Spy has backstabbed me' is kinda moot if there's no way to live through that in the first place.
