Changed what? Didn't the text only get released today? How do you know what's been changed or removed?

He doesn't.

You should read his speech to the NAACP last year.

I've been saying this since the outrage began. Republicans need to learn to pick their battles wisely, and not follow the idiot talking heads on TV and radio (who make their livings off selling manufactured controversy, not news) down dead-end paths to self-pwnage, like they did here.

And right in time for Obama's second push for health care reform.

Once and for all the GOP had ZERO to do with health care dying in the House. FFS. Blame the Reps.

DEATH PANELS!!!! :Q

are stupid, but the GOP is irrelevant to the democrats pushing their agenda through congress.

Too bad teachers can not receive full SSN benefits like other people who receive a retirement. They probably dont teach you that in school.

1. Not true of all states.
2. Most states teachers can choose to NOT contribute.
3. Reason: State retirement.

Not a big deal.

My father and his wife are both retired schoolteachers receiving full SSN benefits. And full state benefits as well (from different states BTW). They both make more now, years after retirement, than they ever did while teaching.

HELL YES! The main constituancy of those yelling about "death panels" and "killing grandma" basically runs the spectrum between catastrophically uniformed and tragically stupid. As Americans, they were taught that they could rely on their representatives, and all they got from those who are supposed those representatives who are supposed be the voice for their interests was unconscionable fear mongering. :|

Seriously we live in a democracy. And it wasn't 'the GOP few,' liar, it was mass public spectacles at every political town hall, meeting, and speech across the country. Don't play me for stupid just because you are and can't remember yesterday with any clarity. There was just one part of the many proposed bills that was definitely NOT socialism, and it was millions of brainwashed GOP asshats who decided to play like that one part was the most socialistic part. When democratic pressure from that faux outrage caused moderates to back down, that wasn't vindication that your death panels lies were true. Nor is your revisionist bullshit here.

edit: the funny thing here is that I'm a strong OPPONENT of any kind of socialized healthcare, while a supporter of reform that increases competition and encourages more capitalism in our existing system. That's how fscked up the GOP wingnuts are right now, can't tell their heads from their asses.

We are not a democracy, we are a republic. Those we elect we do so to entrust to make decisions on our behalf therefore public opinion, when it is wrong, should be ignored. Unfortunately Democrats are too fucking stupid to understand that. Is that whats going on?

That said, Can you show me quotes where blue dogs were against it for that reason? I cant seem to find any (probably because this argument is such bullshit). Oh! But I did find this quote:

The conservative Democrats don't believe the legislation contains sufficient reforms to control costs in the health care system and believe additional savings can be found.

You guys are fucking pathetic. You raise the issue of non-voting members of the country (read: a handful of conservatives) influencing why health care reform didnt pass, yet cant provide proof. Oh sure there's plenty of proof that a handful of conservatives believe non-truths; however, WTF does that have to do with Democrats? Dont they know better? Are you seriously saying the Democrats who were against the proposed bill in their heart of hearts actually supported it, but because their constituents thought there were death panels, they opposed it? Is that really your stand?

Fucking morons. Easy to see why I abandoned the Democrats.

Read my earlier remark. We are NOT a democracy, and its not the fault of the pulic it didnt pass. Its the fault of the Democrats who didnt support it. I can prove it too. IT DIDNT FUCKING PASS.

If those elected actually did what was right (lets say pass the bill) public opinion doesnt matter. We are a republic. But, they didnt. So, either the democrats are the stupidest party in power, or very, very confused as to what their role in government is.

The House bill hasn't come up for a vote yet. Every committee that it has come up for a vote in, it has passed. While the exact form that the final bill will take isn't clear, this whole 'it didn't pass' business is nonsense. You know as well as I do that the House will pass a version of this bill that is extremely similar to what is currently out there.

That fact is, the Democrats dont have the votes to pass it as it stands now. The American people's opinion is not relevant. They dont vote on it, remember?

Do you also still think it's the death camp GOP that caused it to die in the house?

The bill hasn't died in the House in any way, shape, or form. I frankly have no idea what you are talking about.

The bill hasn't died in the House in any way, shape, or form. I frankly have no idea what you are talking about.

Really? You have no clue? Has something changed in the last month? Do you have a link?

There are 435 seats on the House. Of those, 257 are filled by Democrats and 178 by Republicans. Which means a majority is 218. The Republicans have vowed to vote against health care, period. The Democrats can pass health care on their own, but if they lose 40 of their own, they only have 217 votes.

There are 57 Democrats who signed the July 30 letter saying that they "simply cannot vote" for a bill that "at minimum" does not have a public plan (PDF). There are 7 more not listed on the letter who have pledged to vote against any bill that does not have a robust public plan. That makes 64 Democrats who won't vote for the "co-ops" that both Kathleen Sibelius and Robert Gibbs say the White House is "open" to.

Do the math: 257 - 64 = 193. They need 218 to pass the bill. They don't have the votes.

I did find this story as of 3 hours ago but this bill which shows promise is NOTHING like the original one proposed. And as this article explains (today's story) I quote "The White House?s straddle reflects the Obama team?s recognition that the more liberal House will not pass a health care bill without a public insurance option, while the Senate will not pass one with it."

In other words, nothing will happen.

Im going to add an edit: If in some dreamland all the GOP were to *poof* and all that were left were Democrats, they still couldnt agree on a bill. THAT is the problem, not the GOP. The GOP is effectively a parapalegic on the bench in this. The Dems need to pull their collective heads out of their power drunk asses and come up with a plan. The GOP certainly didnt have a problem when they were a majority. They passed whatever they wanted.

I also want to say, as I have in other threads, I really hope reform passes. Unfortunately we havent seen a broadly accepted bill that qualifies as such. All we've seen is a gigantic welfare bill. But there's still 3 more years.

I think the best thing to come out of all these "conservative" parents listening to paranoid illiterate idiot Beck, and are keeping their kids out of school to sit around playing Xbox (rather than going to school to learn things, such as how to spell oligarchy) is that all the other rational parents will know who are the crazy dipshit parents, so they and their brood can be safely avoided, lest they too catch the virulent case of Stupid Flu that is rampaging in the nation's heartland this year.

I don't mean to talk shit, but I get the impression that you have not watched a lot of legislation being crafted in the past.

Do you see any respectable, independent analysts saying that health care reform is 'dead' in the House? Do you wonder why nobody is saying that? (EDIT: There might be one somewhere even though I haven't seen it, but the vast majority consider the bill nowhere even on the same planet as 'dead'.) The answer is because it's not really anywhere close to reality. There is significant debate over whether or not a public plan will be included in the end and what the final form of the bill will be, but the bill dead? That's silliness. The real question is what TYPE of bill will be passed, not if a bill will be passed.

Simply put, there will be some sort of compromise plan. What that will be is anyone's guess, but your analysis of the bill being 'dead' just isn't based on how Congress actually works. Maybe it will 'die' in the future, but absolutely nothing in what we've seen so far would say that. Watch what happens when both the House and Senate pass their bills and it goes to conference, and then watch them whip moderate Democratic votes in both chambers. You'll understand what I'm talking about then.
