I lived in Both Houston (6 or so years) and San Antonio (about 6 months). I liked San Antonio but there's a hell of a lot more going on in Houston. Houston can be a pretty great place to live.

I agree, Houston is one of the largest cities in the US, there is plenty to do there, just make sure you live in one of the better areas. You don’t hear as much about it, but with big city comes bad getto. Take a look at the Montrose/Westhimer area for a great cultural place to live.

The summers are brutal, though.
And they last 9 months of the year. Houston has two seasons, Damn Hot and Not So Damn Hot.

What part of MI? If its rust belt (flint to Detroit, and the western suburbs)- get the hell out of there!!!!!! How can you even afford a computer and internet what with all the unemployment!!!!
If you are one of those lucky ones with a job I imagine it is like living in a 3rd world nation, you have all sorts of cheap labor to cook and clean for you. Just wait until the Republicans take office again and end all entitlements, then you lucky few with jobs will be virtual kings.

if its more like lansing to Kzoo or points north, well its just damn pretty there, and Texas is realllllly flat and pretty scrub boring, and stuff is FAR! Say goodbye to ever having to warm up your car or to scrape ice or shovel the walkway.... Oh yeah and your car will thank you too what without the massive potholes and fissures that regularly for and swallow cars whole in MI. Texas has beautiful smooth perfect roads in comparison.

And if any type or amount of frozen water falls from the sky we close the state and declare it a snow day.

I loved Alaska, it is like Texas, only colder!

Montrose/Westheimer is a pretty cultural place alright, since it's the ghey neighborhood (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)

There's definitely plenty of stuff to do in Houston but you won't want to do any of it between May and September because it's too hot to even want to go outside.

Gay neighborhoods are being increasingly populated with straight hipsters. Mainly because there's so much to do, and the neighborhoods are clean, nice and affluent.

this is very true of montrose. they call it gentrification but the neighborhood was already gentrified with all the DINK gay couples.

I'm a straight guy who lives by Montrose because it is indeed a nice place to live. I'm no hipster though

Hmm... honestly, I don't remember high school football being that big of a deal...

You sure you're a Texan? High school football is BIG in Texas. A my high school the football team was treated like royalty. I can only imagine how they would of been treated had they been any good.

I say make the move. There is still plenty of opportunity in Texas and it's a good place to raise a family or just live period. Most people are friendly especially once you get into the small towns.

Dude, the first rule of being a hipster is to argue that you are not a hipster!
If you want to live near Montrose because it is a cool place and nice, then you are a hipster.
Spend much time in Empire Cafe? Know where Taft Street Coffee is? Eat at Mia's?
You are a hipster.
