I'm going to be in TX over x-mass for a week.

What to do and see in Houston & San Antonio?

Thanks

Hit up salt lick. I hope they have one around there.

Riverwalk is pretty cool. Lots of stuff going on there during the weekend.

My uncle had a place in Lake Conroe right outside of Houston. It was a pretty awesome area.

I went to the salt lick in Driftwood when I was visiting AMD's Austin campus, it was amazing. We had a whole room to ourselves, and they just kept bringing out the food, ridiculous amount of food.

Moon pies and RC.

Find yourself some Dublin Dr. Pepper if you are in the area. You might be able to score it in the area you're in.

Johnson Space Center is pretty nifty. Get to see old Mission Control and the Saturn V.
If you head down that direction, go to Ryan's BBQ. Best BBQ in the Houston area.

why would you not tip servers? that doesn't even make sense.

and last time I checked we had minimum wage here.

Tipped employees only have to make minimum wage after their tips are included. Their hourly pay is something like $2.13 per hour. It saves the employers\job-makers money so they can hire more waiters.

Yep, it's the same in EVERY state...even those silly blue ones.

Yeah but the blue states are the ones where everyone is entitled to everything, so you're expected to the tip no matter what.

One thing I would like to see in Texas is Home Depot. I've heard that illegal immigrants literally stand outside Home Depot and wait for a guy to illegally hire them. Maybe I could stand next to them and have my picture taken. Look at me! I'm illegal! /sombrero

True...and sadly no illegals at my local HD 🙁
IIRC California pays waiters true minimum wage, plus their tips. At least that's how it used to be.
Actually correct, I didn't know that...of course you'd need it just to live in a box in California😛

Very true about Home Depot. Some law enforcement agencies have tried rounding them up and charging them with loitering and other petty crimes, but the backlash from local businesses shut that shit down in a hurry.

still doesn't explain why you should refrain from tipping servers...

Send me a PM with things you're interested in and what areas you're going to be in around Houston and SA - I'll be in SA this weekend, but I live near Houston (and apparently CPA but he ignores my PMs to go grab a beer.)
