Texas gets tough on illegals, unless you want a personal Mexican

"As proposed, House Bill 2012 would create tough state punishments for those who "intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly" hire an unauthorized immigrant. Violators could face up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

But it is an exception included in the bill that is drawing attention. Those who hire unauthorized immigrants would be in violation of the law -- unless they are hiring a maid, a lawn caretaker or another houseworker."

This is already a front runner for the stupidest idea I'll see today. The idea that without the exemption, Texas jails would fill up just shows that they are not serious about illegal immigration.

I actually find it funny and will remember to laugh every time in the future I hear about Texas upset about illegals.

Nice Troll/Spin or Sproll or Trin... how are people sitting at home to know if the person they are hiring is illegal or not??? business have a way to do it and they can invest time and money coz that person will be working for them for a while, where as a maid or lawnmower is often a temporary seasonal job.

Texas and every other state could make it easy to identify identity theft/fraud by requiring biometric information to be included on the DL/ID cards that they each issue.

How about requesting identification? Maybe instead of house worker, they could say 'day worker'. As in, if this person is expected to be in your employ for more than a day (to avoid having kids asked for ID if they're going around shoveling driveways), then you should get them to produce identification and take a photocopy.

Then it would not be knowingly, intentional, or reckless. If they don't ask for any ID, I would consider that reckless, and don't know why they wouldn't be charged.

I just saw an article in the Washington Post which stated because the latino presence is so strong there and illegals dont even try to hide any more, that Texas is lined up to be hardcore a Democrat state in the next elections.

Pretty true. In most cases they assimilate to a point you can't even tell who's been here for generations and who just came over. I can count on one hand how many times I've talked to a Latino that couldn't speak English here in the 3 years I've been here.

Illegals can't vote but South texas is very Dem as many legals live there to be close to family. That and some of the larger cities are also moving more Dem as well.

.... 😱 :'( 😱😡

FFS, let's make the hypocrisy a LITTLE more obvious next time boys.

You want such jobs filled? Hire an American. Can't get an American to do it? Raise the wages until it is filled. At what price is American sovereignty, is there a bid for selling out your own country?

The two largest cities Houston and Dallas have been decidely Dem for a long time, and the number 3 and 4 cities San Antonio and Ft. Worth hang around 50/50 sometimes going R and sometimes D. It is the extremely gerrymandered districts and rural areas that keep Texas consistently Republican overall both nationaly and in the state legeslature.

There is, but unlike an auction, it goes to the LOWEST bidder.

Don't want illegals? Don't hire them.

Spin my ass! If you can afford to hire a maid or gardener you surely have the means to copy a person's ID. Ask the prospective employee for proper ID and tell them you will make copies of it. An illegal may decline. Even if he/she agrees and is later exposed as an illegal, the State should accept your copies of ID as a good faith attempt to comply with the law.

Sorry you couldn't figure that out.

Why is it that people who hire illegals can go to jail for 2 years and face a $10,000 fine but actually BEING here illegal gets you NOTHING? No jail, no fine, and often not even deported! Something in wrong with our system.

Yea we have so much free money we should just lock up millions more people. 🙄

Yep cause fake IDs are so hard to come by this plan will not fail.

So how much time did Meg Whitman spend in jail?

People with the money for their own personal Mexican to do housework and watch their kids don't do jail time. Their lawyers provide cover.

The rich control our country.

For the same reason we should not bring Somali pirates back here, if we stick the illegals in jail, we have to give them free medical care and three free meals a day (something free people are not entitled to). We cannot fine because they all have it stashed in cash somewhere and not in an account (if they even have money). That leaves only two options, deportation or execution (for repeat offenders). The international community would likely start slapping sanctions on us if we started executing repeat offenders, so that leaves deportation as the only option.

Think about, if you make it so nobody wants to hire them out of fear of being pun ished then they have no reason to come here.
Fuck imprisoning the illegals, the cost would be proibitive.

That much was obvious the moment these people arrived in our country. It shouldn't even be possible. Our meek response to it is... a telling and laughable sign.

Our people want them here. The circus show is a response cooked up to appease the calls for American sovereignty, not an actual attempt to deal with the problem. The defense of this nation has turned into a dog and pony show made to puff up, look strong, and accomplish nothing. This is intentional.

eh? the city cores are solidly dem but the suburbs are solidly rep. that's why you see 66%-33% typical margins on statewide elections.

the gerrymandering kept dems in control of the state house and overrepresented in congress for a couple decades after statewide positions were going strongly R.

So why aren't we proposing fining and imprisoning school teachers who teach illegals? Not only is it encouraging the illegals to come here by giving them free education, its costing the taxpayers money DIRECTLY.

And why aren't we proposing fining and imprisoning government officials of 'sanctuary cities' for the same reasons?

Why do we punish private citizens for something that we allow government officials and teachers to do?

Since you are so concerned about COST, what about the cost of teaching them and allowing them to use healthcare and other benefits?

When you hire someone for a real job you usually fill out employment papers.
When you hire someone to do yard work or be your maid, you don't.

I seems like Texas is going after *businesses* who hire illegals.

Secondly, since it isn't Arizona's job to enforce federal law in terms of immigration, it is certainly not my job to check the legal status of an hourly worker.

Ah yes... a fine example of publicly educated students.
