Anthony Ruelas watched for what seemed like an eternity as his classmate wheezed and gagged in a desperate struggle to breathe.
The girl told classmates that she was having an asthma attack, but her teacher refused to let anyone leave the classroom, according to NBC affiliate KCEN. Instead, the teacher emailed the school nurse and waited for a reply, telling students to stay calm and remain in their seats.
When the student having the asthma attack fell out of her chair several minutes later, Ruelas decided he couldn’t take it anymore and took action.
“We ain’t got time to wait for no email from the nurse,” a teacher’s report quotes him as saying

what the fuck.

part of me wants the teacher to have a heart attack and have the students email the nurse with the hashtag YOLO

It's sad getting suspended for saving someone's life now. Unfortunately that's the world we live in nowadays. Teachers cannot and/or are scared to do anything as well from fear or being sued so common sense goes out the window.

1. Do something good
2. Get punished for it

Yup, sounds like modern society.

And with that, the 15-year-old Gateway Middle School student carried his stricken classmate to the nurse’s office, violating his teacher’s orders.

Why couldn't the teacher take the kid to the nurse's office?

WTF?!?

Schools nowadays have these stupid protocols and as we all know, they trump even common sense which is what happened here.

He was rewarded for his heroic deed with 2 days at home playing Xbox.

That's how I always looked at out of school suspensions. Except in my case it was atari.

i can see why they wouldn't want a student to do that, from a liability standpoint

but i can't see why the teacher wouldn't just call the school nurse, instead of writing a freaking email

It's pretty ridiculous the world we live in today. It's all about liability this liability that.

How about stop the whole idea of being able to sue for anything, and it would solve so many stupidities and red tape related problems in today's world and also stop a lot of the waste that happens.

It's the same idea as to why grocery stores can't give "expired" food to the food bank, and it has to go to the trash instead. It's completely ridiculous.

there's too much money to be made or lost in liability to stop it. work for insurance for a while and liability will become the first thing you think about in many situations.

even if a protocol is dumb and inaction is potentially harmful, if i means avoiding liability, it makes perfect sense to me why someone would do it. we're talking millions of dollars here.

Rather than post a separate thread: http://www.buzzfeed.com/emaoconnor/driver-stranded-in-blizzard-kills-helping-hand#.av6pmdPbr

A Driver Stranded In The Blizzard Shot And Killed A Man Coming To His Aid:

Marvin Jacob Lee, 27, was thrown in jail and charged with murder after he allegedly fatally shot one of three men who came to his aid when he lost control of his car on an icy road in Catawba Country.
The trio of helping hands pulled over to help Lee after seeing his car stalled on the side of the road around 5 p.m. Friday, officials told local news outlets.
When they approached the car to try to help the driver, Lee became visibly upset.
“They thought he was drunk or on dope and said, ‘Let’s just call the law and let them deal with it,” Sheriff Coy Reid told the Charlotte Observer.
As the men called the police, Lee pulled a gun from his car and began shooting at them, officials said. One bullet hit Jefferson Heavner, 26, causing him to fall to the ground. Lee then walked over, and stood looking down at the wounded man and fired “numerous times,” Reid said.

Yeah insurance and lawyers are typically the major culprits in these type of situations. Lawyers always looking on things they can sue for and insurance wanting to create things they can sell you insurance for, so the lawyers can't sue you for it but then you have to fight to actually get it covered. As usual, the corruption and stupidity all boils down to money.

Does humanity really suck this bad??? Someone who falls out of a desk is no longer 'faking it' or whatever the teacher was thinking suspecting that an email was sufficient. It's a good thing the student acted. To think that a suspension occurred after the fact, when there was time to deliberate on the proper course of action, is a bit to unreal for me. At that point, you suspend the teacher for being a dunce and give that student a free pass for a couple weeks.

Come to think of it, this reminds me of how in China when someone is hurt, like a kid in the middle of the street continuously getting run over, nobody stops. If they stop they then are owners of the situation and have full responsibility over what happened. So it's sadly easier to just ignore the situation. It seems this is the kind of world we are getting to here too.

There are plenty of situations where you hear of someone trapped in a car on fire, and cops wont even let someone go help. Rather let someone die than to deal with the "what if's".

Yeah, definitely worse. If my kids require inhalers, there's no fucking way I am letting that type of shit pass. I'll bring the nastiest lawyer I can find if they think that type of shit is acceptable.

Common sense clearly isn't very common.

If my kids need an inhaler they are going carry it with them.

No fucking teacher or principal is going to stop them.

Fucking common sense is getting in short supply these days.
