1. I got the job at the power plant. I signed the letter today.

2. I sold (binding contract) my house here in Va Beach in one day, today as a matter of fact. I got $30K in equity in my pocket (after all fees) in just 8 months.

3. It looks like we're moving to either Weatherford or Azle.

I say we need to have an all Texas ATOT Meet. What do you all say?

Discuss. :)

Update Aug. 14, 2005: Ok, I'm signing off from Virginia ATOT. I'll post back up again when I get to TX later this week. Have fun, have a  for me, and try not to get banned before I return.

That decision was made for me by the location of the plant I'll be working at. It's in Poolville, way out in the boonies.

Welcome to DFW Tejas:) and yes we should have a DFW meet. Where did you land a job? TNMPL? TXU? Comanche Peak?

Coming here in August don't let the insane heat turn you off you will get used to it. We have absolutely fantastic Fall/Winter/Spring here:D Can you say short sleeve Christmas, or playing golf in Jan:cool:. We do have some very cold windy days in the winter, but it usually lasts a couple of days then back to normal. We haven't had a decent snow here in 15yrs:(

Entertainment, Art, Culture, Nightlife and things to do in general are second to none. And the cost of land and housing will amaze you, especially in the suburban areas around Fort Worth. For $150-200k you can get a small mansion 2500+ sqf :)

I was born in FW and have lived 45 of my 47 years here, and will gladly give you some tips on where to go and what to see just PM me

*edit*

I see you'll be working in Poolville, you might want to look at housing around Eagle Mountain Lake, some very nice lakefront properties there and would be 20-30mins from Poolville and 20-30mins from Downtown Fort Worth

Congrats!

I just got back from Texas. My family's there, and I wouldn't move there in a million years... but hopefully you like it more than I do. :)

Thanks everyone. Here's some clarifying details:

1. This is not a nuke plant, it's a combined cycle plant.

2. LINK 1 LINK 2

3. The place I'm leaving is a nuclear physics lab LINK not a nuclear power plant. I considered going back to a nuclear power plant as I am an ex-nuke ET but the level of BS is not commensurate with the pay IMHO.

4. This combined cycle power plant is brand new. Maintenance is going to be easier and the operating procedures are still being developed so I am getting in on the ground floor.

5. Being a new plant in a large global company, my potential for advancement and salary increases is far greater than they'd be a nuke plant.

6. No more radiation surveys!

7. Stress? what stress? :)

I am really excited about this if you guys can't tell. The fact that my house sold in one day is like an omen or something. Comments?

Ive been to DFW a few times (I am from NC) but I genuinely like the area. I don't think you will be too unhappy with the change in location.

Oh..and definitely eat at a Whataburger asap. I wish we had one near here.

I had a bacon cheeseburger at Whataburger when I was down there for my interview. It completely owned burger king and the fries were actually good. They had Jack In The Box there too but I was only there for one day, I didn't get to eat there. But I remember when they were here in Va Beach back in the 70s/80s...

That is what I am talking about man. If I lived near a whataburger I would probably go at least 2x a month, if not 4.

Edit: I'd definitely be up for a Texas ATOT meet too, but DFW is somewhat of a long drive up from San Antonio...heh :)

Yup, DFW is too far. We still need to have our San Antonio ATOT meet though. ;)

There's a place on Camp Bowie street in Ft. Worth called Kincaids that makes absolutely the best Burgers in the World, they've been in the same location for over 70 years. They probably sell 4000-5000 burgers a day.

And you will learn to love the Mexican food here, nowhere else in the country has true Mexican. I'm so addicted to it, when I travel I get the jones for MF real bad:)
