I have a feeling we'll be the inverse of the beverly hillbillies. We're trying to buy property that is more rural than I'd normally like. Perhaps a small ranch... Land is sooo cheap in Texas, so are the houses.

Anyone have any recommendations as to which towns/subdivisions we should look into? We'd prefer to have 1+ acre of land and the house needs to be big (4 bedrooms/2 baths).

Not in poolville no, but all are less than 40mi per mapquest, which is closer than Azle in his original post. And he expressed the desire to be closer to town and not so rural

Here's some in Poolville

3180sqf $335,000

2461sqf $289,000

4379sqf $285,000

2264sqf $194,000

Here's some in Springtown 5-15mi

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.livingchoices.com/home/homedetail.aspx?
mid=2800&hid=534267966&refer=bvc">$284,000</a>

$239,000

Windsor Woods, near Lynnhaven Mall. Know the area?

Those houses in Pooleville are ridiculously overpriced. That's out in the middle of nowhere. Why do they think they're worth that much?

Most of them come with quite a bit of acreage 3-5 acres. And from my experience asking price and actual selling price are often drastically different. But I tend to agree they do look abit high.

Nope. I'm exiting the nuclear field. I've had enough. This is a natural gas powered plant.

Yeah, my wife says those houses are too high. The ones we're looking at in Azle are really nice and much less expensive. We just need to see the surroundings in person so we can make a choice...

My dad's from that area, and I've been to arlington (smack in the middle) just about every year to see my grandparents and other family still in the area. I was born in houston and am now going to school there. I dunno, I really like all of the texas that I've seen so far.

Welcome to DFW! The August heat is pretty brutal, pretty much the worse month of the summer.

That suggestion about buying a house near Eagle Mountain Lake sounds like a winner if it's within your pricing, I've been fishing up there before and it was nice.

I'll check it out. But we're pretty committed to buying a nice house and NOT being house poor. That's our biggest problem here in Va Beach and we'd like to enjoy our lives more than we currently do.

Less than a month to go. I completed my background check, urinalysis, and physical last week. I await the call of the relocation consultant now.

Well, crunch time has arrived. We get packed out Monday and Tuesday and we leave for Texas Tuesday night. My first day of work is Aug. 22.

We've already got a house under contract down in Weatherford, it's really really nice. Way better than our dump up here in Va Beach. And because property values are so much lower down there it's less expensive than our former house (which sold in one day at our asking price) and our interest rate is lower.

Once I get moved in it would be cool to hook up with DFW and other TX ATers for a meet. Do you all normally have one/several a year?

Yea, I'm in the D of DFW for a few more weeks, before I head back down to Austin.

I really like Dallas - although the school system sucks tremendously, and traffic can be a pain in the ass. At least they offer overly expensive private schools and public montessori schools.

Funny, I was just thinking about my first post here, you were kind enough Megatomic to welcome me. :) I wondered about you and your family, and how things were going. Good deal!

Welcome to Texas. Meeting, I am always game.

4 of the 5 of us are excited about the move, my 11yo daughter is the only holdout at this point. But I know for a fact that there is a 12yo girl a few houses down from ours so she'll be fine within days. I just wish she was excited now, I feel bad whenever she voices her sadness over leaving her friends. Oddly enough for her, this is a military town and several of her friends are moving away this summer also, her posse would have been busted up even if she weren't moving. :(

The rest of us are ready to go though. I'm glad you stuck around BrokenArts, it will be interesting to meet you and the others soon.

Welcome to Whataburger. May we take your order please? hehehehehehe
Tas.
Hehe, you can't drive very far down there without seeing a Whataburger. I actually ate there my first night in Texas when I was there for my interviews and testing. Very good food for the price.

We'll be 20 minutes West of Fort Worth in Weatherford, supposedly they have the best schools in that region. Here's to hoping. :D
