I rather enjoyed Hillary tearing Obama a new asshole. The man has no brain, no concrete agenda, just a personality cult. And now we learn he's not even a great orator, just a plagiarist. What's the Democratic party to do, when even the teeny boppers get bored and stop swooning at his campaign events?

Mark Penn...is that you?

Hillary didn't tear any assholes last night. She was outclassed and out-debated by Obama across the board, as usual. Just take a listen to the crowd...

The crowd? You mean the crowd here that is full of Obama fanboys?

Funny because out of about a dozen commentators I heard on tv last night after debate, there was pretty universal agreement that the debate had been about even with no clear winner.

Then I come here and I hear all about how Obama "wiped the floor" with her or whatever. Well this place is good for some light humor, if anything.

Most independent reports say it was about even, but she demonstrated, once again, superior understanding of the issues, and they noted, again, Obama voters don't really care about that stuff, so even if she won the debate she doesn't win any votes. So it's an empty victory if a victory it was.

On plagiarism she drew boos. It may play better in newspapers but in the debate hall it flopped.

Completely agree on both counts.

Obama's response about the surge, and debating it with McCain, seemed especially good.

I am a solid Obama supporter, and I would call it a draw.

I was shocked that Hillary didn't go after him. Either she still thinks she is the frontrunner, or she is looking out for the democratic party in the general election. For her to catch Obama, she HAS to take the gloves off, and shockingly, she declined to do that last night.

I didn't see it, but if hillary didn't dominate she may as well just drop out

Obotsma is strong here... but given the demographics, I'm not a least bit surprised.

what you mean young and well educated? Stop being bitter.

everyone around here is focusing on the answers to the last question: something along the lines of 'what was your most challenging situation in your life'

obama told his life story, again.

hillary said that everyone knows she's had some challenging times in her life, but none of them are anything in comparison to what average americans are going through. then she talked about opening a VA hospital with vets in attendance who had lost limbs.

my father said that when he heard that very well delivered and thought out answer he looked at the TV and wondered where the stiff and boring hillary had gone

She copied the line from Bill, he used the exact same one.

My reluctance to declare Obama the winner is that he seems like such a nice guy debating that I'm a little worried he's going to just get killed by the Republicans in the general election.

I seem to remember some nice guy, a Texas gomer really, winning the debates in 2000 because the other guy thought he was clearly superior and acted tougher.

People's responses to attacks seem hard to judge. Even decent ones have backfired on those that do it to Obama.

McCain better be damned careful, IMO, if he wants to go after Obama. Not only does Obama seem to have that "I'm rubber and you're glue" thingy going for him, but McCain's got a long-standing problem of being an argumentative a$$hole. He better smile a whole lot instead of looking like a cranky old bastard.

Oh, lastly... about one of the Hillary hissing moments. She brought up the "Obama supporter who couldn't list one accomplishment." The guy she was referring to was the former mayor of Austin, and I think now congressman. Whoops, talking about pissing on the home crowd. lol I think Obama's response to the criticism was good: listed lots of accomplishments, lots of issue specifics and that he didn't think the 20M who had voted for him were all "delusional".

That guy's a state senator. Mathews ambushed him pretty good. Until I caught the fact that he was a state senator I was thinking WTH? this guy outta be able to answer the question. But since he's just a state (TX) senator he's never worked with Obama etc. Like most of the rest of us, prolly has idea who really does what in any specifc piece of legislation.

But you're right about HRC demeaning a locally popular state politition.

Otherwise, when HRC brought it up I was thinking "WTH? how does it matter if someone else can't list the stuff". Anyway, that ended up being a softball Obama hit out of the park. My wife was pretty impressed with many of the things he's worked on.

On its own, there was no clear winner. In the bigger picture, though, Obama won because there was no clear winner. Hillary needs him to have a big screw up, and he avoided that. Draws aren't good enough for Hillary now.

I just hope that hillary can lose with sportsmanship or errr sportswomanship and not hold a grudge and support Obama... Would be a crying shame and we would know the true side if she did anything but that....

The debate was largely a win for Obama even though, on issues alone, it was a draw.

Hillary had a scripted Hallmark moment at the end, and one blunder in her Xerox comment.

Obama demonstrated a better command of issues, and was able to stand toe to toe with Hillary on every question.

Hillary needed a KO at the debate...or at the very least, a sound byte that would frame Obama as shallow or one dimensional...she failed to do that.

I am surprised that she played it so safe...her one last hope is to frame Obama as a candidate who will not survive under fire as she can, but she has yet to turn up the heat.

She still acts like she is the frontrunner, and is playing it safe.
