federal judge Friday threw out new Texas abortion restrictions that would have effectively closed more than a dozen clinics statewide in a victory for opponents of tough new anti-abortion laws sweeping across the U.S.

I knew this was going to happen. They can take this all the way to the SC but I believe they will lose on this.

The regulations didn't outlaw abortion or anything, it just raised the standards of care. To the point in which few clinics could stay open, but that's beside the point.

It arbitrarily raised the standard of care in an attempt to create a de facto ban on abortion.

BS, that's just a tactic the Christian Right used to circumvent the abortion rulings to basically "ban" abortion. If you think these regulations were put in place to "protect" women, you are extremely naive. Just another dishonest tactic by Christians to force their agenda on others.

Was there an issue with the standard of care to begin with?

A woman should have the right to do whatever she wants with her body....Men should not have a say in that action...

You and I know that.

I wanted to hear Sonikku's justification.

I suspect Sonikku was kidding; her post history and content suggest a level of sarcasm that's rare even for AT.

As for the OP, great news. This backdoor legislation is a thinly veiled attempt to nullify Roe v. Wade at the state level.

Saved me a post. I've given up trying to tell when it's sarcasm or not.

no there was not.

it was completely an attempt to ban abortion, with a shitty technicality..... they knew exactly what they were doing..

iirc it had to do with, abortion clinics, being able to secure a room, in a nearby hospital IN CASE something went wrong and the patient had to be rushed to the ER (the law stated they needed to have a room reserved all the time)

i think the number was like 2........2 clinics in all of the state, that had this available...

Just the Freedom Loving Conservatives of Texas trying to tell women what to do. Well, not actually telling them, just trying to make it impossible via catch 22.

It's mostly a froth up the base maneuver, given that it couldn't possibly withstand judicial review.

Because the freedom loving liberals would never tell men what to do

*cough* Vietnam draft *cough*
*cough* Korean draft *cough*
*cough* World War II draft *cough*
*cough* World War I draft *cough*

Or as a more related note. Telling men to pay child support to the women who CHOOSE not to get an abortion.
