Yes. Tesla has some special sauce they’re working on with batteries. It’s going to involve Maxwell battery tech they just acquired over the summer. It will be explained around Q1 next year during Tesla battery day. But given how clueless analysts were with Tesla autonomous day, they probably won’t understand the significance. Everyone was so focused on unconventional Tesla Cybertruck design that they totally missed the real announcement yesterday. Tesla battery tech just got whole lot better and they’re confident they’re going to increase their already massive lead.

yes, this new battery tech is not just for Cybertruck. Model S, X, 3, and Y will all get it. It’s basically going to make Tesla cars twice as much efficient as their competitors.
 
Think about what this truck means for Tesla competitors like Rivian. Tesla’s most expensive truck is going to be around the same price as Rivian’s cheapest truck yet Tesla truck is going to have more than 2X the range of Rivian truck. That is just insane and something most people don’t know yet. But you can bet Rivian, Porsche, Audi, Jaguar, VW, and others just got their mind blown. Tesla lead is increasing at even more rapid pace.
 
Cybertruck will look right at home when it rolls off SpaceX Starship when it lands on the moon or Mars. Earth is just the proving ground.

Cybertruck tri-motor is slated for end of 2022. Model Y Performance is likely summer of 2020. You’re looking at around 2.5 years later for Cybertruck Tri-Motor if you choose it over Model Y Performance. Cybertruck will be built with Maxwell battery tech and rated for one million miles. It’s likely Tesla will be using batteries they produce themselves instead of using Panasonic cells. I believe Tesla contract with Panasonic at Gigafactory 1 expires in 2023.

Since Cybertruck is brand new platform for Tesla, it’s best to add Elon time. So expect Cybertruck Performance model sometime in 2023.

The design doesn't look futuristic though. It looks like what someone living in the 70s imagined that the future would look like.
It does a lot of things right. The price, the range, the AWD and power. Those are all great.
The design is awful. It's made out of 3mm steel. That's just unnecessary weight. The truck bed looks like it was designed by someone that's never had to throw things into a pickup truck. The visibility looks terrible.

Its absolutely not a pickup truck for someone who needs to do work and that's what Europeans use pickup trucks for. They are strictly utility vehicles here. This thing is a fashion statement for people who like 80s dystopian scifi movies.

I'm curious about the car accident portions of the design...crumple zones? What if the batteries catch on fire in a crash & you can't escape because the windows are shatterproof?

no bumper... I live in the country and having a practical work truck with heavy duty bumper with winches and aux lighting is a must around here. this looks like something a yuppie will buy to haul his ass to starbucks.

My buddy bought a used 1st-gen Avalanche for a song, and while it's horrendously ugly...it's incredibly practical. The interior is comfy & fits real adults, it rides pretty decently, and the bed is...usable.

The crumple zone thing will be interesting. Also that steering wheel is not legal in a lot of places.
It's big and heavy and appears to have no bumpers. So if you do hit something solid it's going to be really expensive to get that 3mm steel fixed up.
I'm not too worried about the windows, I bet that they will give in to a standard laminated glass breaching tool pretty quickly.
I'm interested in the batteries as well. Do they have special secret sauce or are there just a lot of them? Theres plenty of space to fit them.

Its certainly an interesting vehicle that puts up a lot of questions.

Europeans don'g like big cars. They have nowhere to put big cars. It's really just that simple. Hell, I think the first pickup trucks arrived there only a few years ago, lol.

This thing is 2x (more?) the size of a Wesfalia-type camper, or one of their ~Citroen + small trailer hookups that the English use to go "caravaning"

I think The VW e-bus is going to be the primary competitor for this in Europe, and it probably won't even be close...huge price issue, there, if all is to be believed from either company, but I'm taking all of the pricing with a grain of salt for now.

I definitely like the idea and strangely...the look of this truck more than I thought I would. Something about it...but I do have reservations about the electric cooktop. I mean...you aren't doing anything close to backcountry with that thing, haha. Definitely need hookups for that, but at least it has plenty of room to toss all the real cooking equipment if you take it to do some real camping.

What it will have is a bluetooth coffee maker and a scented candle holder with an app to monitor how long it's burned.

It has such potential that it actually angers me that they made into such a pile of crap.
 
Yep compared to the $1000 for the model 3 which had even more preorders in the same amount of time it isn't anything special. It is a $100 so why not put in an order and be at the front of the line? You don't actually have to go through with it and you get to tell all your friends you preorder a cybertruck and hey maybe it won't be so crazy when actually goes into production.

But that’s 146k legitimate sales lead. And good leads at that since people were willing to put in their information to say they wanted to buy it. That’s 146k people who like/love the truck design/function.

I suspect after the initial shock wears down and people get used to the unorthodox design, more people will order the truck. I’m so glad Elon and Tesla went with this crazy design for the truck instead of something boring and the same. This is how you disrupt the pickup truck industry. Same boring design would’ve failed. I want this truck because it’s not like my Tundra and my LX470. People have 2 years to get used to this design and they will. Tesla truck is going to be homerun.

There are millions of vanilla ICE trucks for you to choose from and I’m sure Ford and GM will both soon come out with vanilla electric truck for you to buy. Tesla Cybertruck is for us who do not want vanilla truck. There’s only one Cybertruck, and I’m glad Tesla didn’t design the truck for you. Tesla didn’t get to where it is today by being boring and not taking risks.
