Great article.:disgust:

I like the last sentance:

"So is Terri Schiavo still alive? The odds are way against it. It's time that her long-suffering parents and the grandstanding politicians let her go in peace."

Let her go in peace by letting her die of starvation and dehydration?

Thanks. I thought it was a great article too. It got you to drop your PVS (persistent vegetative state) lies and get back to starvation and dehydration.

Yes, she will go peacefully. She won't suffer at the hands of her parents anymore.

edit: clarity

It's really sad this is turning into a political battle with both sides using her situation and trying to denegrade the opposing viewpoint. Really shameful.

I think they should let her die since she has gone through enough misery and pain. She has suffered and so have her friends, family and her husband. It's best for all parties, INO. Of course the parents don't want her to die, no parent ever wants to see that.

She is. The great majority of doctors have said so. Neither you, nor I, nor terry's parents, nor her husband can make a judgement on this.

I will say this, however. Watching those videos made me want to vomit. She was clearly unresponsive. Her mother looked directly into her eyes, and Terry's eyes were wandering all over the place. Then they ask her to open her eyes. She does so almost a minute later. What the hell does that prove? You call that scientific? Why in the world are her parents doing this to her?

She is suffering because she expressed that she would not want to live like that to her husband. Her parents are keeping her alive against her will, when she is unable to function in this world in any way.

Terri never signed any directive or living will and there is no evidence that she foresaw her present situation.

Where's the proof that she told her husband that "she would not want to live like that"?

doesn't matter, her husband is her custodian in the event that she can't communicate. Unless she gave her parents PoA, which she did not, then he now makes her medical decisions. not your choice or anyone elses. It is between schiavo's doctors and her custodian.

Proof of a conversation between husband and wife? I know I have all my conversations tape, transcripted and then notarized. In a case where he has zero to gain his word should be trusted, he is her husband.

In addition she wouldn't have to die of starvation and dehydration if she had the right to die with dignity. But she doesn't, no doctor can legally end her life even knowing full well it will end.

Here's your answer. She told her husband. That is proof enough, especially when he really has nothing to gain by her passing away.

Why do the videos make you want to vomit?

The point is, she isn't alive, except for a pulse. And what kind of ridiculous life is that?
People need to focus more on the QUALITY of life. There is definetely something to be said for that.

Maybe her quality of life would be better if her "husband" hadn't prevented rehabilitive therapy.

Since the religious right (Rip) believes there's a magical place in the sky you go when you die I don't know why he's protesting this!

Not so fast

Congress has introduced a new wrinkle. At least, instead of a one-off, this bill could result in a more defined policy for situations like this one.

The woman has been dead for a long time. They're just keeping some protoplasm warm. The parents want to wait for a miracle that will never come. Isn't obvious that they seeing only what they really want to see?

I had to make a decision a few years ago about my baby brother. I watched him deteriorate rapidly, both physicaly and mentally. By the time it got to where he would be in the most vague state of conciousness only a couple of hours a day, the doctors told me that the only thing keeping him alive was the medication he was on. They told me that they could possibly keep him "alive" for a couple of months more by continuing the medication, or discontinue it and he would die in a couple of days. He was suffering and I already knew that what had been my brother did not really exist in that body anymore. I authorized discontinuing his medication and he did die 2 days later. To this day, I've never regretted that decision. I know in my heart and my mind that it was the right decision.

I fully understand the position this woman's husband is in and think is a crime that he has had to fight for so long.

Update

Florida Lawmakers pass Law to make it mandatory to keep Vegetative humans alive forever, Bill Frist and W look to make it a Federal Law too:

3-17/2005 Fla. House OKs Bill to Keep Schiavo Alive

Congress was also considering legislation to move the case to the federal courts

The House bill blocks the withholding of food and water from patients in a persistent vegetative state who didn't leave specific instructions refusing the artificial measure.

At the White House, press secretary Scott McClellan said the case raises "a lot of complex issues" and declined to comment on specific legislation. But he said Bush "stands on the side of defending life."

Also, Schiavo's parents filed an emergency motion at the U.S. Supreme Court to stop the removal of her feeding tube so lower courts can consider whether their daughter's religious freedom and due process rights have been violated.

I don't get it. This shouldn't be a federal issue. It is a State issue like euthanization. Now we have more politicians interfering with Terry's life. It should be only between Terry, her husband, and the doctors.

God, just die already, please. Then I won't have to hear more of this crap on the news, plus she probably wants to die anyway, and her parents are being dinks.

Jeez, I just read what the bill does. This insane. It means that any person in a persistent vegetative state who has not left specific legal instructions will be kept alive. That is f'd up. The husband knows the wife best in most cases - her family should decide, not some politicians who know jack sh*t about her.

If she truely has zero brain activity then she is dead and this wont matter. If she has some brain activity this is one of the most cruel things you can do to a person.

ironic isn't it?

if she had some brain activity she would be kept alive for sure, suffering all the way.

if she doesn't have any, she'll eventually be allowed to die.
