With the attacks continue in Iraq and the attacks of people in Istanbul I seriously think they are winning and they seem to be chipping away at America's willpower which is not good.

Winning what? To what end? America's desire to exterminate terrorism is overly idealistic and impossible.

I don't know if they are winning, but the certainly are having some success. Saudi Arabia is I fear very close to crumbling, and Pakistan is also very close to the brink held in check only by its very strong military. The new Domino theory.

Middle East

Draw a circle at 400 miles radius centered in Baghdad, and assess the threat risk there to the U.S. and Isreal.

Extend the circle to 1,000 miles and review again.

There is not one 'al-Queda' - there are bunches of un-related, and non-connected groups of rebels
that for what ever pourpose - be it Power, or Political, or even Religion - they only want it their way.
We do not have the luxury of one single adversary, as they are splinters within their country,
just as we have splinter para-military groups here in the US of A.
(Would they really have the balls to do what they are saying)

Old Blood-line resentments, and political instability are evident everwhere around that region.

Israel, Syria, Jordan to the West - lot's of threats active there.
Turkey and some Soviet Bloc remanants, a small (?) tip of Iran to the North, that's cute.

To the East, Iran covers the horizon, but just over that horizon is Afganistan (Remember Afganistan ? It's still out there)
And you know how buddy-buddy we've been with them these last twenty-some years.

As we gaze to the south we find the Saudi Empire, and snuggled up real tight are our great allies Kuwait.
Yep, we like 'em. Good people. Got all that Hummer food.
And if you close your eyes real tight and concentrate real hard - and you've gotta believe - you can see the Horn of Africa !
And what to my wondering eyes does appear but Somolia, and that place that they keep all those starving childern - Ethiopia.

Isn't that just a peachy place for us to get involved on a mission from God ?

how is what's going on in Iraq terrorism? If the US initiated war, they damn well better expect some sort of justified retaliation. Or do you honestly believe the iraqis were dumb enough to buy into the whole liberation crap?

I have never heard of this Bosch guy before and don't why Bush Sr gave him a Pardon. I'm certainly NOT going to take everything a left wing website says about him, they have a agenda and I'm sure there is more to the story then they are saying.

Castro isn't the leader of Cuba he is the Dicatator of Cuba, nobody elected him he simply seized power.

Bush isn't the leader of America, about 30 advisers who have brains are. Nobody elected him, he simply got selected by his daddy's cronies - the Supreme Court.

The terrorists started winning the moment Bush decided to go to war in Iraq. Instead of discouraging attacks, they have grown, and I fear they will expand. Of course the Bush supporters will respond by declaring we weren't aggressive enough, which is like saying that driving a nail with a five pound sledge doesnt work because you need a ten pounder. Hopefully, I am wrong, but things are going pretty much as I expected.

You know, Winston, there may be some reality to the notion that folks that are citizens of a nation ought to be able to live and be as they please within those borders. I'm all for leaving Afghanistan and the other Arab and Persian states be as they wish. So long as we can get the oil and don't ya think they want us to? Us westerners do our thing and they do theirs. If their religion holds the elimination of human rights well... so be it. I don't see how we can hope to overcome centuries of culture with our $ and or might. Sooner or later the US will run out of bribes and the will to fight and then what. I think it possible to sway some folks by inducing them to capitalism but, that is almost againt their belief system in the Middle East.
I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel in this... just some fire flies flitting about.

edit to add 'be'

I think the failure to capture or kill Osama is worse. Considering that international terrorism was not a real problem with Saddam, but is with Al Queda. I suggest that Bin Laden welcomes the new playing field and the distraction Iraq provided as well as great press to those of sympathetic mind. When they get Saddam, and things still are a problem, then who do you go after?

LR, I think that "Democracy" can be many things, and I don't believe in ramming my version down the throats of those of different cultural perspectives. I will go further, and suggest that there is not much difference between those who insist on American style democracy, which is really developed over time within the context of American culture, and those who wanted to "liberate" the Middle East by forcing Christianity on them during the Crusades.

Should the have the OPPORTUNITY to develop THEIR OWN style? Yes. Forcing them to adopt ours is in my opinion wrong. The worst of the Middle East governments is gone. Now lets not repeat this exercise.

Well, there is a commonality of sense on one side of the issue and a commonality of sense on the other. The merger of these two commonalities into yet another commonality of sense is wrought with the friction of ideology.
To argue the point does not depend on the accuracy of the information since the best we can get is bits and pieces of truth coupled with opinion to paint a seemingly reasonable picture for our consumption. This is true if we stood there ourselves because we'd not see more than we see. Hard to see motive or understand cultural perspective when our eyes are focused to view with our own bias.
