I thought there was a story running about how the mother of the baby recently got a ton of life insurance on the baby, was in serious money problems, and paid the convicted kid to kill her baby for the money. Then there were police reports saying she was laughing on the day of the murder and generally behaving strangely. Not to mention the family members who thought something was up with her. The lawyer for the kid (probably a public defender) argued that the police didn't want to follow up this angle because they had their man and called it a day.

I dunno, just something about this whole story seemed very weird. Do you have to shoot a baby in the face to prove you're not messing around? You already shot the lady in the leg.
