lots of comedies...
showing all the funny lines in the trailer is bad enough, but to make matters worse, those lines are so played out and expected they arent even funny in the movie anymore

I was a projectionist for 10 years and IMHO this easily is Pearl Harbor. The trailers were completely awesome and they were on constant rotation for more than a year (far longer than most).

Then the movie came out.

This doesn't quite fit in... but I just have to say that I was really disappointed w/ the way they used that cool ass "Paper Planes" song for Pineapple Express, only to leave it out completely throughout the actual movie. It was a hilarious flick nonetheless - but I craved that MIA song dammit!

The Blair Witch Project
Dune
The 300
Elf (beware of any comedy that has an exceedingly long and somewhat funny trailer, as you have probably now seen every funny part of the film)
any Star Wars movie
Saving Private Ryan
The Silence of the Lambs
Austin Powers in Goldmember
The Dark Knight
Spirited Away
I am Legend
I Robot
Enemy of the State
Independence Day (wow, let's pick on Will Smith!)
The Young Poisoner's Handbook
American Gangster
Training Day
The Bone Collector
Devil in a Blue Dress (whoops, Denzel's turn)
Swimming With Sharks
Pool Hall Junkies
Shade
...and many many more

Is it because I picked as terrible every golden calf your pre-pubescent non-taste-having mind holds dear? What did it for ya, Silence? Fucking garbage movie. 20 million people buy Tom Clancy books every year, and even a hack like Brett Easton Ellis would lol at someone who called any of them even mildy entertaining much less well written. Just because most people (with an average IQ of 98), were thrilled with Lambs doesn't make it watchable. Think of me as the William Shakespeare of movie criticism. Also Dark Knight, is the worst film on that list. Perhaps I tread too harshly on your beloved Baleman?

At any rate lol all you want. Idiots always have an easier time being entertained.

Bridge to Terabithia
Go into it expecting a nice family fantasy movie and instead get kicked in the balls.

Looks like you just listed popular movies you didn't like. Rather than the OP topic of great trailers with bad movies.

For instance, Saving Private Ryan, was the movie really anything different than what you were expecting from the trailer?
