Not much that Jack Black does that I don't like. I love School of Rock and many of his other movies, and his D music is pretty cool as long as you're not into lyrics.

Used to love Jack before he was a movie star (his bits in Mr Show come to mind). Now he just looks and sounds like every other sell out who went for the big bucks.

Pretty much this.

They don't take themselves seriously, which is refreshing.

The fact that they're both pretty damned talented doesn't hurt.

Not that is proves/disproves anything but I bought (and loved) his album before I even knew he was an actor.

This is not, the greatest song in the world. No!

This is just a tribute!

Not a fan of most of his movies or acting, but I like Tenacious D. If nothing else it's pretty catchy and there's some talent behind the music.

I'm in a music buying mood, and I figured that I'd pick up their first album. The thing is... both Amazon and iTunes (got in on Best Buy's 20% off iTunes gift cards) both have two versions of the CD that appear to be exactly the same. So now I'm kind of confused:

Amazon 1 - Amazon 2
iTunes 1 - iTunes 2

iTunes says "(Spoken Word)" but the songs don't appear to be any different; however, the prices are different on iTunes. :hmm:

Your first amazon link says play time is 50:37, and the 2nd one says 50:35. Get the first one... more for your $

Wouldn't I get more for my less dollars if I buy the $8 one off iTunes (arguably it's 20% off that since I paid $40 for $50 worth of gift cards). That 2 second difference appears to be in the song "Kielbasa", and I'm not even sure why it would have a difference.

tenacious d was ok. they had decent skill with jokes and music and i especially like jokes made of music, like spinal tap or maybe tmbg

They Might Be Giants

i saw them play dozens of times. one of the best was a 25 minute istanbul-jam-istanbul, but then again i'm also a deadhead.

For me I think the music made me more interested in him as an actor. Wonderboy was his first song that I heard. Up to that point the only movie I had seen where he had a significant role was High Fidelity.

The lyrics are the best part about it! Hilarious, and sing-along-able. I loved the first D album.

Uhh Jack Black and Tenacious D was pretty darn big before Kung Fu Panda.
It's not like he rose to stardom of a animated voice over...

Tenacious D was around LONG before they ever had a CD or Jack Black got "famous". They were on HBO AS Tenacious D. It was just a short skit to compliment Mr. Show which ran from 1995-1998. I've been a fan since back then, it's meant to be a parody and it's funny as hell. Most of the music on the first CD was just all the stuff they had done for Mr. Show. Then Jack started getting actual movie roles and it kinda went from there.

I admit as big a fan of Tenacious D as I am, the actual movie was pretty bad, but whatever. If you do like them and have a chance to see them live GO. It's pretty fucking good for 2 fat guys playing guitar.
