They don't take themselves seriously, which is refreshing.

The fact that they're both pretty damned talented doesn't hurt.

I'm in a music buying mood, and I figured that I'd pick up their first album. The thing is... both Amazon and iTunes (got in on Best Buy's 20% off iTunes gift cards) both have two versions of the CD that appear to be exactly the same. So now I'm kind of confused:

iTunes says "(Spoken Word)" but the songs don't appear to be any different; however, the prices are different on iTunes. :hmm:

Wouldn't I get more for my less dollars if I buy the $8 one off iTunes (arguably it's 20% off that since I paid $40 for $50 worth of gift cards). That 2 second difference appears to be in the song "Kielbasa", and I'm not even sure why it would have a difference.

tenacious d was ok. they had decent skill with jokes and music and i especially like jokes made of music, like spinal tap or maybe tmbg

For me I think the music made me more interested in him as an actor. Wonderboy was his first song that I heard. Up to that point the only movie I had seen where he had a significant role was High Fidelity.

The lyrics are the best part about it! Hilarious, and sing-along-able. I loved the first D album.

Tenacious D was around LONG before they ever had a CD or Jack Black got "famous". They were on HBO AS Tenacious D. It was just a short skit to compliment Mr. Show which ran from 1995-1998. I've been a fan since back then, it's meant to be a parody and it's funny as hell. Most of the music on the first CD was just all the stuff they had done for Mr. Show. Then Jack started getting actual movie roles and it kinda went from there.

I admit as big a fan of Tenacious D as I am, the actual movie was pretty bad, but whatever. If you do like them and have a chance to see them live GO. It's pretty fucking good for 2 fat guys playing guitar.
