Temps While Encoding Video?

Hi.

I remain paranoid about my thermals, so factor that in. Cause this is my first quad core chip.

I just began a video encoding.....know that I also again, unparked my cores.

Is it normal for my temps to be as high as they are doing this????? I never see them this high!!!!😱

Actually those temps aren't high. Since encoding is very processor intensive you will see it warm you chip up more than day to day applications and games, but you still have plenty of thermal room left.

I know it sounds lame, but I just got tears of relief. I need to stop expecting them to be 27C not only at idle.:\

In my paranoid little brain, I was about to get out the AS5 (I now get there's better stuff I should buy) and take things down and clean my Lynnfield and put new, better paste, cause what Mfgs use is very lame.

I think I should stop running Speed fan every 14 minutes.:sneaky:
 
Those numbers are very low if you're doing CPU-only encoding. I have a 3570K overclocked to 4400 at a bit over 1.3v, and I'm happy if the core temps stay in the mid-80s doing a Handbrake encode.

I am feelin better and better!!! Nothing more important than LEARNING. This place is the ultimate for that re our technology!:wub:

And, if I saw mid 80s while doing ANYTHING, I would go directly to the padded room and fold up into the fetal position in the corner of it.

But maybe I should replace the original paste anyhow.

You need to bump up your clock speed by at least 400MHz. I run mine up to 80C without so much as blinking. These 45nm beasts run hot.

O! I am afraid to do that!!!

No hitting....I've always felt Intel should be respected in the specifics of their engineering re any given chip, and oveclocking is mean verging on sadistic.

No matter how irrational, it is true.

Were I a chip, I would no way want anyone to overclock me.:| OR, have to endure 80C even briefly!!!

PS: Doesn't Turbo boost kinda up the clock speed when called for all by itself? I kinda assumed it did. Does it? I have it enabled in the bios, after all. So I keep thinking when needed, it will just leap up to 3.4, no?

K, I just found below on Intel re Turboboost, putting screenie re my chip:

Doesn't that mean it overclocks itself sometimes when needed, and I don't have to override that and be mean? If not, wut DOES it mean????

Good point, I have bookmarked it in my brain! I crop all the time, I was just remiss earlier. and only focused on isolating the relevant data on Intel re MY CHIP from all the rest.

U must have planets in either Virgo, Libra or both.

K.....I always try to do everything myself, it empowers in all of life, and U feel less lame depending on others. PLUS, you earn more to contribute to others.

Bottom line: Turbo helps. But it can never approach actual, manual overclocking.

I feel thrilled that I understand all this now!!!😀

But, I remain adverse to raising clockspeeds manually. Esp given my relatively modest needs in computing.()🙂

Mine hits as high as low 70's during extended rendering via CPU (overclocked from 133bclk to 207 bclk 24 X 7).. nothing to worry about..
