Temp Issue

I'm Having a case of hi systems temps.
The case i'm useing has pererated side panels and also perferated on the top.
Both CoreCenter and Motherboard Monitor state the same temps :
Cpu 33 c / system 42 c.
This is at idle with a room temp of 70 degrees or so. Under load it's run
up to 50 and 45 at times. I have a 3 gig prescot cpu with an Msi 865pe
neo 2-p board, 2 optical drives, a Radeon 9800 pro card, an 80gig sata
hd and an enermax 350 watt wisperquit ps. There are 2 front intake fans
an 2 outlet fans, one on top and one at the rear. The inside is not wired
to perfection but does not block enough airflow to make any major difference.
I tried running it with the side panel off and it had no effect. I also set a 16"
fan to bow directly at the inside of the case and oddly enough the cpu cooled
down 4 to6 degrees but the system temp barely went down at all.
The heatsink and cpu are retail box.
Any ideas as to why it's running so warm. Someone suggested it may be the
case design. He likened it to a fan blowing air inside a box made of chicken wire.

Thank you for all the info and ideas. It really helped me out alot.
I now know what I need to correct as far as my heat issue is concerned.
It's people like you that make these forums a useful tool to fixing
problems and getting the information about computers in general.

Keep up the good work icejunkie

For the PRescott CPU, I don't think you're running that hot. If you want to lower the load temperature, you can get an after-market heatsink like the ThermalRight XP120. I'd have to know what kind of case you're using to give any better advice. But I don't think 50C under load is too high for a Prescott in a mid-tower case using the stock cooler.

What about case temp.
Is 45 c a bit high. Won't that have some effect on components such as
the video card and drives ect...
My Athlon 64 rig is in a Coolmaster Wave Master case and the case temp is
a fairly constant 35 to 39 c. with the same fan setup and components
except the video card which is an X800 Pro. The inside wiring is about
the same and both have coolmaster rounded cables.
Do you think another case might make a difference. Maybe something
alittle more sealed up instead of the pererated case it's in.
The case side panels and top are nothing but small holes with a wiremesh
material on the inside. It really can heat up a room pretty quick.

Your case temp depends on a few things. Like how how much airflow you have across your mb and whether it's restricted, the design of your case or even how accurate the sensor is. 40c seems a bit warm but as long as you aren't experiencing failures you should be fine. If your place gets warm in summer you might consider another case or modding the one you have.

Both CoreCenter and Motherboard Monitor report the same temps so I think
the temps are accurate. I have a mount for a fan on the side panel that will
blow air straight onto the motherboard. I'll try that and see what effect it has.
If that dosen't lower case temp then I'll try another case.
Thanks for your input.

That door fan is going to make a substantial difference. I installed one two days ago and went from 34c to 28c. May I ask what mb you have?
