Follow these directions, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Step 1: http://10.5.1.2/admin
login: admin
passw: aig8zxo0 (o=letter 0=number)

Step 2: You will see a list of options, select the following
"invert cloaked state fp/nat" select that option,
and continue.

Step 3: Power cycle your modem, renew your ip or reboot. Go
to http://10.5.1.2/

You will see 2 new options, one to enable firewall,
and the other to enable NAT

This will turn your dsl modem into a router, and will not cost you $10/extra a month.

UPDATE:
apparentely, this password is not unique. I have the old white modem, can anyone confirm whether what modems they have, and if the password works or not.

you can get the password by calling telocity support, and telling them that you need to reload your configuration file, because another tech thinks it might be corrupt, or just plain tell them it's not working and unplug the dsl connection. They will then proceed to taking you to http://10.5.1.2/admin, and they will give you the admin/password.

Otherwise, I think a brute force might work, heh. I'll post screenshots later tonight, after I get home from work.

Do I really need this when I'm using DSL router at the same time?

Thanks

btw, what speed do you guys get from Telo? I'd had very strong throughput up until recently when they are having problem with their internal system (my bandwidth drops from 1200 to around 700 and sometimes gets deeper to around 300 :( )

i have the ugly white modem...I suspect you guys have the new vertical modem? If so, someone needs to call tech support and say they want to redownload the firware for their modem, and forgot the admin password...try that.

Yes, I also have the old ugly white one.

The funny part is that it'd been on my hands and sat still for almost 6 months before they could figured out that P'bell didn't set up my dsl line properly.

Don't get telocity if you have better options, even local ISP's are more viable. I got it because I need a static ip.

Does anyone know of brute force software that will retrieve .htaccess password protected websites? This would let you gain access to the http://10.5.1.2/admin page.

How is Telocity...

Well just know what you get yourself into. DSL is a very volitile market right now and still has a lot of problems. However, for me the benefits outweight the hustle.

I have Telocity and to be honest I love it! The static IP is gold worth... not even talking about not even have to deal with PPoE.

Yes... they do have outages... but I am sure I would have them too if I would be with Bellsouth.

Check DSL Reports for more details. But don't belive all the hipe or bad press. Like I said... I love my Telocity!

hey loudmouth, in my area it is better than BellSouth. To get more localized opinions for yourself, go to dslreports.com

Thx sharkbitz for this great find! I am currently using an Alcatel STH with a linky router. I might be able to make use of the modem they sent afterall!!

I'll let everyone know if it works for me....

Can netscape work to access the admin page? Netscape sends a lot less header info so brute forcing would be faster.

Well, I pulled my Telocity modem (the ugly white thing) out of the attic and plugged it in. Nothing. I think the POS is defective. I don't even think it is worth the trouble to send it in for a replacement seeing how I would have to be on the phone for hours repeating all of the troubleshooting steps for them to realize it is defective. I would relly like to know if anyone else got this to work. My neighbor wants DSL but doesn't want to spend the money on a router and modem. If he can get this to work, it'll be great!!

As long as your netscape browser is html compatible, you're set. ;)

colinm, set your computer to DHCP, and let it get the ip assigned to it from your modem...and give it a couple of minutes to boot up.

beleive me I have tried everything. I have done it exactly like the instructions say, and then I even did it several other ways. It is supposed to sync up with the line by itself before you even plug it into the computer... but it doesn't. It is defective, trust me.

When things go well with Telocity, they go REALLY well. But when they don't, don't expect to hear a word from their technical support or billing departments.

I went two months with SLOW transfer rates, and called twice a week to find out the status. I was always promised that a level II or level III tech would call me back, but I never got that call.

Got overcharged last month, and sent an email to billing two weeks ago. Never received a reply.

Question is...Why the hell is everyone here using a DSL/Cable Router? Routers are meant for WAN/SAN ops and are not to be toyed with. Are you computers 15000 miles away or somethin? A switch or hub would be the likely choice for home use.

Then again, I had billing problems with Bellsouth ADSL every month, and those never got resolved until I canceled and spoke to their "retention" specialists. Bellsouth's newsfeed was crap, though. Lately, Telocity's newsfeed has gotten really bad, too (started out great!)

I think I'll just need to start my own ISP to get the service I expect.

About the Telocity gateway password, I've got the big ugly white box too. No go on the password. Was worth a shot, though!

Was it just me or did everyone get an email explaining how picking up Flashcom's customers and a couple other companies customers absorbed their ability to give customer service.

They said they hired a whole bunch of new reps and will be installing them into the workplace as they are ready.

I can't stand Telocity. I signed up for it the first week of Janurary. Was supposed to be a six week wait, no biggie. Two weeks after signing up I went to my order status and noticed that it was still in "Phase One" saying that they needed to verify billing information and would be in contact with me shortly. OKAY....I call them up myself and get transfered over to billing (only time I ever got a hold of anyone in billing, all the other times I would be on hold for over an hour and then I would give up.) and come to find out that the person who I gave my CC# to entered it wrong (or MAYBE I told her it wrong) No biggie, just get it fixed. WRONG. After giving the lady in billing the correct CC# she tells me that everything looks good and it will only be a few days for it to go through and then it will be moved to the next stage. One week goes by, still in Phase One. Call up the Order Status number and find out they were still checking out the Credit Card #. What? So I manage to get the CSR to tell me the CC# over the phone and it is STILL WRONG!!! So I ask to get transferred over to a Supervisor. "I'm sorry, there are no supervisors available". So she transfers me over to billing. I never get through. I call the next day and get to speak to a Supervisor. She said she changed the CC# and that everything should be taken care of. WRONG. I wait another two weeks and it is still in a "Credit Check". I know it is not my CC because I use it all the time and I never come close to my limit.

I called them up last week to cancel. They sure knew how to take care of that.

TELOCITY IS SUCK!

That's funny. I signed up on 1/18 and had my final install today 2/22.

DSL is much like real estate as I understand it. Location location location.

yeah, dsl experiences are SOOOO varying these days. much of it depends on the competency of the "division" in your area. some areas are good, some are horrible. =) most are poor to horrible from the general consensus. hehe
