OP: first thing to do is start keeping all receipts and tracking your spending. Know exactly how much you are spending, each month, in specific categories. It makes it easier to see where that money is going and where it can be cut back. I divide food and booze, because it's easier to save on booze than it is on food, for example. I also divide eating out from the food category, because eating out is a colossal waste of money compared to groceries and cooking if you know how to cook (not that I don't eat out, because I enjoy it--but for many years that was my number one most unnecessary expense that I found extremely easy to cut and, for nearly a year, I almost completely eliminated it).
Just adjusting my food costs: no eating out, setting a grocery budget and planning efficient, cheap, good meals throughout the week, I managed to free up $300-400 per month alone. That's crazy money. Well, it's not Madoka money but it adds up.
Make all of your purchases (including bills) on a good rewards or cashback card. Get free trips, vacations, money. No reason you shouldn't be doing that.
