I didn't have any facial hair restrictions when I was in highschool 5 or so years ago. We didn't have a dress code or anything.
If you have any racist or discriminatory views, you should leave them in Sweden (I'm not implying anything about you). That sort of stuff won't make you popular in the US.
okay, well, I´m to a racist or anything. here in sweden you´re concidered a racist if you somehow try to represent sweden, like sing the national anthem, were clothes with the swedish colours and stuff like that. sadly but true:/
some people can´t see any difference between a racist and a patroit
If that is the case, then you would probably feel more comfortable wearing a Swedish t-shirt over here in the States. You have to keep in mind that the US is a big 'melting pot' of other nationalities and cultures and therefore I think most of everything is pretty well accepted.
Alcohol and tobaco is a big no here in the US. I think it is a bit anal, myself, but those are the rules. They seem to have been cracking down bigtime on minors in possession (MIP) so just a word of caution, watch yourself. My opinoin is that sometimes kids in the wealthier neighboorhoods and suburbs (like Frisco) have a tendancy to break the rules/laws moreso because they feel that mommy and daddy can use their money to make everything better.
If you are into sports you can also see the Dallas Mavericks at the same arena (AAC) that the Stars play at, or you can go over to Irving to see the Dallas Cowboys (no, they do not actually play or reside in Dallas at the time being) or you can go over to Arlington to see baseball at the Ballpark. Arlington also has Six Flags over Texas if you are into the amusement park thing.
HERE is a website of what is happening in the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) area. It is not a complete listing, of course, but I look at it a lot to see what events, concerts are happening or check out the resturant reviews.
There are a decent amount of clubs (you call them discs?), but most of the ones worth going to are for age 21+. There are some for 18 up, but they have a tendency to be lacking.
I really think you would enjoy Texas. I do think everything here is indeed 'bigger' and if you have not been to the US before, then I think you will get a feel for the diversity.
I assume your host family will probably take you out on some trips and outings, but for a suggestion for a weekend trip both Austin and San Antonio can be great fun. For an extended trip you could hit New Orleans in Louisiana, but that could also be nothing but trouble.
