Anyhow, I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas and I hope you enjoy your stay down here!
Where will you be at while you are in Texas, and why are you staying for a year?

By the way, leave the cold weather gear at home.

I´m going to Frisco, about 25 miles north of dallas. I´ll be there as an exchangestudent.
I´ll attend to Centennial High School.
Don´t worry, I´ll leave the coldgear at home:p but I+m a bit worried about the a bit more "conservative" rules over therethan we have here.
like a certain dresscode and stuff like that, I´ve had my tounge pierced and I hope I´ll get to keep it at school.
Couldn´t you tell me a bit more about like what´s allowed and not?
For example, what you cannot wear? (over here we can wear anything we want in school,or nothing at all if that suites a man better:p)

Lots of good looking blonds - very tall.
But, on sheer looks, I think Iceland is unquestionably the best in the world, with a slight edge over Sweden, Norway, and Hungary.

I have been out of high school for nearly ten years so I am not quite sure what would be acceptable for that particular school. However, when I was in school a few friends of mine had tongue piercings and it was not against the rules.
Just looking at how teenagers dress, I am not really sure if schools do have dress codes anymore.
Most schools seem to be okay with guys having piercing and even facial hair.

I think that you will find that teenagers in Texas are not as 'conservative' as you may think.

Frisco is a pretty nice area, it is one of the wealthy suburbs of Dallas. If you are interested in hockey the Dallas Stars have moved (or will be moving) their team practice to an areana up in Frisco so taht is something you could check out.
Frisco has shopping and resturants, but for most of the other fun activites you will need to go to Dallas or other surrounding areas.

I believe facial hair is prohibited in most schools. That's because only gangsters and violent video game players have those.

I thought that was a little extreme too. Also, if you want designer clothes don't buy them in the states, go to Paris (it's closer to you). Gotta say though, too bad your going to Texas next time try to come up to Washington.

The Dallas Stars play at a place called American Airlines Center (AAC) in Dallas near downtown. I suppose a 30 minute drive from Frisco, depending on traffic.
When I mean facial hair I mean mustache and beard type stuff, not sideburnds. For the longest time guys had to be clean shaven in the front, but I do not think that seems to be the rule in many schools now.

I really am not sure what exact retailers are up in Frisco right now, but they do have a newer shopping mall that seems to have quite a bit of the more exclusive designers. Aslo in North Dallas, not too far from Frisco, there is a Galleria Shopping Mall that has many 'high end' retailers. I know there is an Armani, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and a few others I can not think of.

I have been to Paris and all over Italy once before, and I was thinking about getting some designer clothing thinking that it would have been cheaper. But, at least what I found, the prices were about the same or just marginally different.

Then again it is not like I knew where the good places were to go shopping, I just did the dumb American tourist thing.

I didn't have any facial hair restrictions when I was in highschool 5 or so years ago. We didn't have a dress code or anything.

If you have any racist or discriminatory views, you should leave them in Sweden (I'm not implying anything about you). That sort of stuff won't make you popular in the US.

some people can´t see any difference between a racist and a patroit

F NO! If you get caught doing that, they send you back. That's what the guy at work told me who hosted an exchange student.

Frisco high said it was up to the administrators about hair and hair color. So if they are 'normal' sideburns your probably ok.

By law,
tobacco=18, and not on campus.
alcohol=21

Oh and yes, the Stars practice in Frisco and play in downtown Dallas, so you can watch their practices. Free I think, but not all are open to the public.

If that is the case, then you would probably feel more comfortable wearing a Swedish t-shirt over here in the States. You have to keep in mind that the US is a big 'melting pot' of other nationalities and cultures and therefore I think most of everything is pretty well accepted.

Alcohol and tobaco is a big no here in the US. I think it is a bit anal, myself, but those are the rules. They seem to have been cracking down bigtime on minors in possession (MIP) so just a word of caution, watch yourself. My opinoin is that sometimes kids in the wealthier neighboorhoods and suburbs (like Frisco) have a tendancy to break the rules/laws moreso because they feel that mommy and daddy can use their money to make everything better.

If you are into sports you can also see the Dallas Mavericks at the same arena (AAC) that the Stars play at, or you can go over to Irving to see the Dallas Cowboys (no, they do not actually play or reside in Dallas at the time being) or you can go over to Arlington to see baseball at the Ballpark. Arlington also has Six Flags over Texas if you are into the amusement park thing.

HERE is a website of what is happening in the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) area. It is not a complete listing, of course, but I look at it a lot to see what events, concerts are happening or check out the resturant reviews.

There are a decent amount of clubs (you call them discs?), but most of the ones worth going to are for age 21+. There are some for 18 up, but they have a tendency to be lacking.

I really think you would enjoy Texas. I do think everything here is indeed 'bigger' and if you have not been to the US before, then I think you will get a feel for the diversity.
I assume your host family will probably take you out on some trips and outings, but for a suggestion for a weekend trip both Austin and San Antonio can be great fun. For an extended trip you could hit New Orleans in Louisiana, but that could also be nothing but trouble. ;)
