Just because someone dies in an accident doesn't mean a crime was committed. She wasn't under the influence and she didn't flee the scene. Absent a finding of criminal negligence she won't be going to jail. And like a said before just because someone dies doesn't mean a crime occurred.
Of course the family is outraged, they just lost a relative to this person, her tweet is completely beside the point. She would be vilified for doing anything other than crying about it nonstop.
Per her first tweet, she's quite upset and is trying to work through it on her own terms, in this case that means trying to ignore it and go on with the holiday. That is an incredibly terrible article, it reads more like an opinionated blog post than actual journalism.
Me thinks that a civil lawsuit will be coming her way soon ...
She may not have much in the way of assets ... including a damaged Ford Focus, but her actions have infuriated the victims family (and others) and since we are a litigous society I predict that she will be paying for this for a VERY long time.
BTW, it appears that the twit deleted her Twitter account. If she had been smart she should have done that BEFORE she thought of posting.
Typical Perk thread.
exactlyOk? What is she supposed to do?
Exactly - she clearly stating she's attempting to cope and keep herself collected. And then she posted an image - holidays, family gatherings, and food... that's about the only legal way a human knows how to cope with anything, as you figure they will throw themselves into all of the holiday mix, trying to overwhelm their mind so they aren't thinking of anything that isn't about the present.
And you'd tweet it? If she had thrown herself into the holidays as a way of coping, that's one thing. The fact that she's tweeting about it makes her look like a superficial wise and beautiful woman. I can just imagine it now, "oh my gawd, I broke a nail when I hit that old lady. Oh well, I'm going to eat my lasagna and hopefully daddy can buy me a new car."
The pedestrian had the right of way.
Go back to my OP and you'll notice that I took no stance either way, which is absolutely ATYPICAL for me.
Because I could see both sides of the situation, I was curious to see how different OT posters would respond. I was not disappointed.
Of all the posters, though, you exposed your bitter, petty little loser self the most.
How do you like them apples, bitter loser boy?
The real tragedy here is the teen was wearing a reindeer costume when she ran over that grandma.
Would smash.
Yes I smell a lawsuit in the works and this is an effort to poison the jury pool. And, it will likely succeed.
Here remarks, by themselves, should not cause any outrage but the inclusion of the Thanksgiving meal picture will be the thing that works against her.
It's possible the family contacted a lawyer and he/she poked around on Twitter/Facebook etc trolling for such stuff.
So, beyond whatever legal issues she has for hitting someone in a crosswalk she's likely to have a civil lawsuit that she will almost certainly lose given the negative publicity she's already received.
Now, she may have been distracted with texting or similar and that will come out pretty soon, but the fact that she hit someone that later died when they were in a crosswalk doesn't look good.

Was it a sexy reindeer or just a normal one? Because, if it was not the latter, tragedy not found.
