I don't get why they need surgery to prove it. Why couldn't they simply x-ray his head and see if there's a bullet lodged in there somewhere?

Wouldn't prove where the bullet came from.

Yeah, maybe the "insert bullet into forehead" fairy put it there.

Fine, do the X-ray and prove there's a bullet in there for definite. Get a warrant to have it removed, if the suspect kicks up a fuss then he's obviously got something to hide. You wouldn't even need to remove it, just stick the case in front of a jury and they can do the math.

Everything else being equal, would you go with a guilty verdict if the x-ray was available?

Are you unhappy they don't just go with the x-ray and guilt is assumed if the suspect fights it?

Remember the suspect has already admitted taking part in the robbery. That doesn't automatically mean he's capable of murder but an unexplained bullet in the head equals very bad things for his defence.

What if someones kid has an easily correctible medical problem, but the parents will not give them surgery and the kid will die?

Look up Christian Scientists.

The bullet will have to come out eventually, due to infection or lead poisoning. It is just a waiting game on how long till it needs to be taken out.
If only it had gone a little deeper and we wouldn't be having this problem and there would be one less punk thief on this planet.

Maybe it's one of these -- lead-free! 🙂 I don't think they should be able to remove the bullet. No way. Bad precedent, like the attorney says. My body -- leave me alone.

Fatty forehead tissue? I just double checked on my own head, and all I feel is a little layer of skin and then skull...

Well, push harder, or get a knife. There is more there than you can feel. 😉
