Hate dishwashers. To get them to clean right, you have to all but clean the dishes before you pack them in. Might as well just finish the job and be done with it.

And nearly worthless if you live alone. You either have to wash skillets, pots and pans by hand so that you can cook meals while the dishwasher fills over several days, or else you have to run it daily with only a couple dishes and glasses.

I don't use my dishwasher, either; I use it to store cookware.

Sensor based *EVERYTHING* in bathrooms. It never fails that a toilet flushes 83 times giving you Poseidon's kiss every 4 seconds and when you go to wash your hands the water and soap dispenser just stare at you in total disbelief and ignore any movement or motion you make. Then once you've finally managed to find the perfect angle of entry to turn on the sink water you go to wave your hands at the towel dispenser that feeds out sad strip of paper that is like 3" long and takes you 3 different attempts to get enough to actually dry your hands.
The building I work in has sensor based lighting even. One of the most annoying things I have ever dealt with. Invariably the light will not come or, or it comes on (on a timer of course), and if you dont move around enough, invariably will shut off right in the middle of some critical task. And some rooms dont even have manual override.

Auto-locking car doors. I love having to hit unlock every time we all need to get out of the van (not)!

I hate that too. I've actually been locked out of my car while it was running because of that. Open door to start car but don't get inside, grab snow brush to brush off car, close door. Car thinks I'm in driver seat. Doors lock. The odd thing is, it does not ALWAYS do it, it's random. I typically just use auto start now and keep the keys on me until I actually go inside.

The bullshit first 15 minutes of a BluRay that you can't fast forward through like the dumb ass FBI warning made even more bullshit since in the day of digital piracy I am obviously watching something that was paid for so don't make my experience fucking worse because I did assholes. Whoever invented or thought up that shit I'd love to find their grave/s so I can piss on it.

i feel this is going to take a few more sessions to explore

Weird, my truck will unlock the drivers side door no matter what I do if I open it while the keys are in the ignition. I have the keypad on the outside to unlock the doors so I have tried, also the autolock doesn't happen until I step on the brake or maybe it's when I put it in drive and then step on the brake. Maybe it's a Canuckistan thing?

You should be able to press STOP STOP and PLAY and it will skip to the movie. Google it.

I could not agree more with the time change. I wish we'd just abolish that crap. It screws everybody up twice a year for no reason. As much as politicians want us to believe, it does not create more daylight. It's like cutting a foot off a blanket and sewing it to the other end to make it longer.

Heh so one of our clients had a facility dept that replaced all their power strips with completely motion sensored ones. Caused a bit of a ruckus because a lot of people working at desks didn't move enough to trigger those sensors. All of a sudden *poof* desktop and monitors would shut off in the middle of whatever they were working on. Now they have ones with like 2 non-sensored plugs so you have to be careful where you plug in things that need to stay on. I'd be interested to know what the break even point is for their electrical savings vs two bulk orders of power strips

Oh if that works thats awesome! Look at ATOT - solving actual problems!

My Explorer unlocks all the doors when I turn off the ignition, the autolock doesn't engage until the car is actually moving and with the exterior keypad you can't lock yourself out unless you don't know your pin.

dishwashers

i had one for a few months once in an apartment, but why? i can just wash the dishes by hand faster than a dishwasher, and i do a better job
I must assume you're single...I could see this mentality for a single person (maybe) but if you have a decent sized family - hell no. There have been a couple of times when the dishwasher has been on the blink and taking 15 minutes to wash the nightly dishes - just no.

Lol that is retarded.

Motion sensor-activated mains sockets? While I could potentially see some obscure scenario where that might be useful, just about anywhere else it's the opposite.

Related item: A customer tried to use some (new) eco-adapters that would shut the power off to any mains appliance connected to the adapter if the power usage dropped to a certain amount. I think the cut-off limit was designed with 80s appliances in mind because it made a computer monitor go off seconds after it was switched on.

"Smart" refrigerators.
Duh, WTH are they? Mine is ~18 YO and may be a dunce.

My addition here: Global satellites, GPS technology. When Sputnik went up and the US scrambled to catch up I had no idea how useful satellites could/would be. The first ones were IIRC nothing more than tin cans in space that transmitted a weak monosyllabic signal. They are incredibly fundamental to our development today.
