Make up your mind already you can't have cheap + quality. No free lunch remember? Besides its not like that the tech support here in US was so great to begin with. Try talking to some clown in Alabama.

Here at work we have problems with Dell support as well but we have found that most of the times its the connection which is causing the problem.

Who said anything about the prices? I would gladly pay more for better support though.

This is no different than people complaining about manufacturing jobs being moved to china 4-5 years ago. Now when you go to walmart every single thing is Made in China or somewhere cheaper. Consumers will not pay more once they realize how cheap products can really be. Wages there are less than half of what the company would have to pay here in US. Even if they do decide to pay more and hire people in US there is no gaurantee that you will get quality tech support from them.

I hate jobs moving from US as much as you do but paying more to some bum here won't solve anything.

I can see no fault in a company moving overseas to make use of a cheaper labor resource. A programmer is a programmer a worker making cheap plastic doodads is the same here as over there. However I think the movement of customer service is rediculous, because more than anything a person needs to understand whats going on. It matters not how skilled the person is on the other end of the phone if you cannot understand them. Hell Iunderstanding through their thick urban accents.
As for dell techs all they do is read a script, if that isn't the problem they move onto the next line. Thats how most callcenters work and thats why they ask stupid questions like is your network unplugged.

exactly and most callcenters that are moving to India are supposed to be first level supports who don't really know anything anyway.

Microsoft is moving many of their call centers to India as well.

I have a friend who worked at Windows 2000 support out of Utah - he just lost his job because they moved it to India.

Amazing the trend, isn't it?

Oh...I'm from Alabama btw. Most people with an accent that bad down here aren't smart enough to get tech jobs. ;)

It is sad that your friend lost his job but he probably knew that his job can't possibly last forever.

I have only spoken with a tech rep in India once. It was for an SMC router. Sure the guy had an accent but I could understand him fine. Not every call center in India sucks.

I would agree with you if any of the so called American cars were actually made/designed in America.

Call/Write your CONGRESSMAN. SERIOUSLY!

I'm writing a letter this week. This is an epidemic that has to be cut early before this weed sprouts to unmanageable proportions!

Or maybe those few companies will go out of business because they can't afford to sell their products as cheaply as Dell and others who save a ton of money on labour through support.

I have never heard anyone when buying a product say "I am buying this more expensive product that doesn't out perform the lesser priced one because of the better tech support". Having tech support vs not having tech support is an issue, but quality has never been.

We'll see...

Then under the options, Dell has the "Pay more for special tech support".

I sure as hell dont feel like spending an extra $200.

I think I fvcked myself getting into tech being a white male in the US I got guys in all my classes in there due to losing an job. Even if you are good you can always be liquidated as companies are sending jobs out of the country in droves like MS for instance. Big press releases stating they are creating 5500 new jobs 3500 of them in the US but at the same time whiping out 5000 US jobs quietly netting a 1500 job loss for US workers :( Yes I know this is happening across the board in many industries.

I Love Prez Bush but damn our Big Business is putting it to the average worker and that sh!t needs to stop pronto. I am voting the Isolationist party next election year. :p :disgust:

Profits go to Japan and many components are imported. And my point is about the attitude of not considering American cars at all.

So, it is not true that Level 1 just has a checklist/cheatsheet and anything more complex than that list is escalated to Level 2? Serious question, not trying to be an a$$...

I gave up on Netgear after calling twice and getting an Indian speaking that gave me an attitude, actually yelling at me! The other time, I think I made a call to Gateway or Dell and I had to repeat everything I said at least 2 or 3 times before they heard me. It totally sucked...
