Apparently rather unsuccessfully in this case. I sincerely hope there were some American interests involved here, but all they're saying is that the raid was prompted by the attack on the Nairobi mall, so I'm skeptical.

On a related note, just the other night I watched the movie "Air Force One", where President Harrison Ford receives great accolades from the American people and the world when he bold-face announces that terrorist governments will not be allowed to exist anymore and not-so-subtly threatens military action. Oh 90s. :awe:

In a stealthy seaside assault in Somalia and in a raid in Libya's capital, U.S. military forces on Saturday struck out against Islamic extremists who have carried out terrorist attacks in East Africa, snatching a man allegedly involved in the bombings of U.S. embassies 15 years ago but missing a man linked to last month's attack on a Nairobi shopping mall.

sounds like a coordinated effort to remove terrorists and those associated with terrorist attacks. I think the Obama administration has been very aggressive on this and I fully support going around the world to bring to justice those that attack the US and US interest around the world. This thread to attack Obama is a fail.

I'm not seeing any downside to US interests in this case. Maybe you could point them out for me.

Maybe Irish is just pissed because Obama is actually going after actual terrorists and he's doing it like one would think you would do it, with a small team with a specific target. I guess Irish likes his terrorists unharmed and persued by a nations whole military.

You gotta get that government check some how right Irishman?!

Lots of AQ-recruited Somalis in America. Potential for sleeper cell attacks from the enemy within...

Obama just shows what a coward he is by not personally swimming over there and decapitating those terrorists with a butter knife, as all his predecessors have done in situations like this. Instead he risks the lives of 'Special Forces' to push forward his crypto-fascist socialist Muslim agenda.

Truly the worst president in the history of this great country. He needs to be impeached.

Assuming that's true, which is a very large assumption based on no evidence, do you think they would have just waited to die of old age instead of eventually attacking us anyway? Has this counter-attack from us persuaded them to do something they weren't already going to do?

Irish prefers that the lives of American military forces be risked to defend American interests. Kenya has a military, let Kenya deal with Kenya's problems.

So you'd support a full military intervention in... most of Sub-Saharan Africa, the middle east and parts of Asia? Oh and a good chunk of Central/South America. People die horrifically all the time. Hell in the Congo more women are raped every month than people were killed at that mall. You think we should intervene in the Congo?

No? Well I guess nobody in your family has been raped yet.

Alright, so we snatched a secondary target that's related to American interests. Good, that makes it a little better.

No, I think we should leave intervention to somebody like you who has a perfect handle on the perfect course of action in a flawed world. I myself consider myself completely unequipped to know what I should do much less the nation. I do know, however, that somebody ran for that job and won. Sadly or not, it wasn't you.

And while you are perfectly entitled to your opinion as far as I am concerned, how you came to the same conclusion yourself I will never know.

Oh please. More than half of your posts here consist of unsolicited pseudo-spiritual advice that's completely irrelevant to the threads it's posted in. You have no room to play humble.

Perhaps relevance is one of those things like the theme of this thread that are clearer with humility. It may be too that humility gets called pseudo-spiritual when one lacks it. However, if you prefer, I will just flat out state that you're an egotistical blow-hard. Not that I have anything against egotistical blow-hards, you understand. All I wanted to do was introduce another perspective for what it's worth. I assumed when you posted that you wanted some feed-back on your position. Geez.

I have this theory that egos and sore toes go together.

I find it interesting he spent resources trying to capture these two while sending a drone into an ally country to kill two American citizens. This destroys authoritarians argument about it being too hard to capture high value targets and instead need to bomb them.

The attack on the Kenyan mall was a response to the actions of AMISOM in Somalia. AMISOM action is something that the US strongly supports in the service of anti-piracy efforts in the Gulf of Aden. Lots of US interests there.

Conservatives have really jumped the shark when they attack the president for trying to kill scumbag terrorists.

He could single-handedly perfect cold fusion, and they'd attack him for destroying American jobs by putting oil companies out of business.

Very well. So my initial skepticism was unfounded. I stand corrected.
