I bought HL2 a long while ago, but my computer sucked, so the experience wasn't great. I recently upgraded it to a very decent system, and reinstalled HL2. Much to my surprise, Steam allowed me to download HL2: Lost Coast for free! Are they giving it away now as well?

Lost Coast was a test vehicle for showcasing HDR (high dynamic range) lighting effects as both Nvidia and ATI were showcasing the feature on their newly released GeForce 6 series and ATI X1000 series cards. (Any Shader Model 2.0 capable card could actually do HDR, as far back as the ATI 9xxx series and the Nvidia GeForce FX 5xxx series cards, but the features didn't work till further driver updates).

The Lost Coast was developed for this and released to all owners of Half-Life 2 for the purpose of oooing and aweing about the continued capabilities of the Steam Source engine.

Being in a dorm, I can't play many games online anymore including TF2, Counterstrike 2, and HL2 deathmatch. Lots of money just wasting away now 🙁

I think it would be cool if someone could setup a AT TF server for us to play.

The best thing we could do is form a guild or group and put an ATOT tag in our usernames and play on a popular 32 player server.
