For those who may not know the specifics, let me briefly outline why the Seti TeAm is now asking for your help.

Seti At Home in its current configuration is ending in the next month or two. The exact ending date has not been officially announced but it could be any day now. For the past two years we have advanced nicely and are currently the "6th ranked Seti Team in the World". This is no small thing for we are talking about the largest and most prestigious DC project in the world.

During the course of my own participation I have experienced the joy of watching our TeAm pass the likes of:

Forum Hardware.FR Team
Team Art Bell
The Knights Who Say Ni!
Team MacAddict
Sun Microsystems
The Planetary Society
IBM
Compaq Computers
Hewlett Packard

The Compaq and Hewlett Packard Teams combined some time ago and passed us overnight. They are now known as Hewlett-Packard and are ranked #5 in the World ... right above us.

During the last couple of years we have been challenged by Broadband Reports Team Starfire and have actually passed and re-passed each other on several occasions. They are the Seti Team that most nearly matches our own and if you look at a graphical chart you will see our two teams have been traveling in a parallel march upward in the World Team Rankings.

BBR, which is what we call them for short (we are known likewise world-wide as TeAm), has made a commitment to pass us right as Seti At Home - Phase 1" ends and forever have their name emblazoned above ours in the final count. This will be carried forward in Seti History forever. Do you think you would like that?

On January 1st, 2004 BBR sent out the word to all of their respective Distributed Computing Teams to amass their power and help in their effort to pass TeAm AnandTech! Their other DC Teams are responding and they are overtaking us at awesome speed!

I have been hesitant to do the same here on TeAm AnandTech for I know how competitive all of our TeAms are in their respective projects. We have a hard time just keeping our most ardent TeAm Mates from coming to blows over which project "newbies" should run. We need to put that kind of thinking aside for the moment and come together for this important challenge to our Seti TeAm. Last month when BBR made their first big move we got the support of many of our TeAm AnandTech brothers and sisters "without even asking". That was a most un-selfish act and brought tears of pride to my old eyes. What a TeAm we have here ... I am most proud to be a member. :)

But now the time has come and your Seti TeAm "is" asking for your help!

PLEASE SWITCH ALL AVAILABLE POWER OVER TO SETI. PLEASE DO IT NOW.

Remember this: When S@H-1 ends in the next month or two there will be an awesome amount of power available that will repay you many times over. I do not say this in a frivolous manner. Although we are all free spirits, the concept of diversification and payback to our other TeAms is the feeling and mindset of most of your Seti TeAm Mates. You have my word on that.

... We Must Defend This House!

... More! More! More!

If you are not currently familiar with how to run SETI, the following link will provide you with all of the downloads and instructions you will need to get up and running.

I don't know what good a Celeron 1.3's going to do, but dammit, it's gonna do it to the best of its abilities ... when it's not laying the smack down on suckers in U2 XMP demo, that is.

Well, yes, bragging rights are a purely altruistic motive, no self-interest at all.

this is pure speculation, nobody knows when it will end. seems to me people were yelling "SETI is ending/BOINC is starting!" about a year ago

I have 5 computers I can run seti on, but I can't install it. I am missing a file. I went to the instructions linked on the top, and downloaded the two files "CLI" and "Seti Driver". CLI downloaded just fine, but when I downloaded and opened Seti Driver Zip file, it came up empty

How do I fix this?

Edit: FIXED.

I wonder if the DC Geeks would mind if upcoming LAN Party Threads were stickied in their Forum?

Nope, we probably wouldn't, I'm sure a few would like to go.

Many DC people don't visit OT, and many more OT people never visit DC, so it's the best of both worlds.

Thanks!! to everyone who has signed up so far, it is much appreciated from the entire Seti TeAm :)

Typical attitude among the enlightened over at DC towards those at ATOT yet you come here first begging for new members when others bail on you for better teams. While I agree with you about this place being a bandwidth waster, if it wasn't for this forum all those who you considers neffs and bandwidth wasters would be doing it over in your forum.

Another common mis-conception, too ;)

Many people just don't feel they wish to venture out to Off Topic for their own reasons. Yeah, sure, a few do think that OT is just a waste, but a lot less than you'd think.

Plus, we didn't "come begging" here, in fact, i'm sure many didn't know about this being posted here in OT.

RD, yourself and ndee have been the only people i've seen so far recently going off on one about DC projects and the DC forum. I know you have your own reasons why you might not like it, but let as was said, we're all part of one community. I see this place as AT, with OT and DC as two sub-sections. Many people see this place as ATOT with other bits. Let's just all get along, and agree to disagree on DC. If you don't like it, fine, no need to post in the threads. I don't post in threads about things you're interested in saying "they suck" or other such things, i just ignore it. Every thread here doesn't need to be replied to, or even read, if it's something you're not interested in :)

Let's all just kick back and have a  together :)

Not a DC member, dont even post there. So much for your "enlightened" ASSumption.......

Now thats enough, dont want to get into a pissing contest with a trader I respect as much as I do.......

Besides we all know it's the traders and For Sale/Trade that made AT and keep it going, we are the money men....

Hey Confused, DC forum is ok with me as is what it is that you guys do there. In fact I appreciate the fact that you guys keep your discussions there and just wish you wouldn't clog up this forum with your Stickied recruiting threads. Either that or have these threads stickied in every other forum at this site.

"Many people see this place as ATOT with other bits"

Those are the exact ones who we need to contribute in other ways, which is why I have no problem with this thread being in here of all places. If it came down to a choice, do you think AT would remove OT or DC first?
